Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello everyone, my name is Alan Bromley, and I go by "Captain Happy" on a lot of forums. I kind of found this forum while I was looking for some info on another subject. When I first started thinking about this lifestyle I found a Web Site called RV-Dreams which by the way was a few years ago. Never even thought Howard & Linda had a forum up and running. At that time I think I read just about everything they had written about. This idea of going full-time started way back when I still had a wonderful wife of over 40+ years. But as long as she had her house this idea of mine was never going to happen. And then 4 years ago I lost her to pancreatic cancer which took her really fast. And then of course I had all the stuff like wills/probates, and yes even lawyers to deal with. And I had kind of lost the idea of any further Rv-ing of any kind. I was just going though the motions of living without her in my life. This went on for over a year or so, and one day I asked myself a question: " Is this how the rest of my life was going to by spent"? And the answer was, no! So fast forward to 2015 I started reading everything I could find on the subject of Full-Time living. And then I made the decision to make the move. I started off having garage sales, getting rid of "STUFF" is what I called. Got the house little things fixed, and painted. Called a real estate agent, listed the home for sale, and with 4 hours later I had an offer. After all that things kind of went crazy. I still had stuff in the house to rid of.
Fast forward to my new life. I packed up the Motor Home with all the stuff I really only needed to take with me and left Texas for my new home base at a Escapee Park in Pahrump, Nevada where I'm at now. I'm still a widower. I've been here for over a year now, and also have a brother/ wife that live here also. I chose to come here because I've always wanted to see the far western states, and the Pacific coast, which we did right after I got here. My brother took me on a month long trip up the 101 all the way to Astoria, OR, and then across Washington state and back down here. What a trip.
I need something to do in the summer months so I took on a Camp Host gig up in Utah for the summer, and again for this coming summer. And that's my story.
First and foremost a huge welcome and congratulations on finally achieving your dream = "always better late than never" :) It's all too easy to let "life" get in the way for many of us in achieving our dreams. Firsthand experience here in trying to get out there on the road FT still, however, the desire is strong enough I know we will make it and in the interim we are making do with lots of longer term extended trips. For us the only thing holding us up right now is selling our Fla house. Last revenue sold last August and the acreage hubby built/developed here in Alberta is already spoken for, and downsized of all our personal effects that aren't staying. Initial goal is a couple or three years FT traveling, then whilst still living in our RV, during school year look after grandkids whilst daughter teaches, but who really knows over time how any of the cards will fall.
How wonderful that your base in Pahrump you have your brother and sister-in-law living there as well!
Well, welcome again, there's a lot of neat folk that hang their hats here, and I notice you are aufait with Escapees as well :) Been a member on escapees longer than I care to remember and have met some totally awesome folks there as well.
Safe and happy travels, and enjoy Utah again this summer. A truly beautiful state with magnificent parks!

Thanks for the Hello's everyone. Hope to meet some new friends here. When your single/widower, one kind of feels like a third wheel sometimes. Sure hope that changes. I'm trying.
Where in Texas did you live? It's a big state and one could almost spend a few years RVing through its many turns, bends, mountains, hills and mountains. I lived near Austin in the Hill Country for quite a few years, and in Houston too, but admit I loved the Hill Country best. Anyway, sounds like you are enjoying yourself. You deserve it, I'm sure.

I'm assuming that your ticker is doing well? Now I've got the song "Abilene" stuck in my head. In any case, glad you are doing what you set out to do and enjoying life. That's as it should be.
