Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
The wife and I have just inked a deal on a new Cougar Xlite 28RKS. The dealer is making a couple of additions we wanted so I'm figuring out which hitch I want to use, reading here on the forum folks likes and dislikes etc. The thing I'm running into is finding a real number for the height of the pin box so I can be sure to select a hitch with appropriate height adjustability. I called my dealer and asked him to physically measure it for me, and he came back with right at 50". Now whether he made sure it was set level when he measured is debatable, but I would think that would be a standard published number from the rv manufacturer so we as consumers can set our equipment up to tow properly. Ive checked owners manual, website, google search, cant find a thing. Does anyone have a 28 series and what kind of ground to pin box height are you set up for? My concern is that my 2014 RAM 2500 sits at nearly 40" at the tail gate. That's 10" theoretical hitch height and there's not a slider Ive seen that low. I know ill have some squat once he weight is on etc. But that's a bit tighter than I care for. Appreciate any input.
I think for the most part they are somewhat different in height per design of what you buy, and the pin weight you will be applying. The main thing you are after (IMO) is you want to ride as level as possible when towing, with approximately 6-8" from top of bedrail and bottom of 5'er. You also may want to look at airbags for the rear axle, makes a BIG difference in riding (again IMO). Firestone puts out a drill-less kit, look in Amazon they have large selection. Good luck in your search and welcome to a GREAT forum.
