Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Coach-Net Raises Rates, Good Sam Emergency Roadside Assistance Offering Specials

We got word yesterday that Coach-Net is raising rates dramatically for their roadside assistance product "Roadside Protect".  The Premium Towable plan is going from $139 to $179 per year and the Motorized Plan is going from $159 up to $249.  And they are no longer allowing us to offer discounts for first-time purchasers.  We still believe they have a great service, but the value has been diluted especially considering the comparison to Good Sam's pricing.

Meanwhile, Good Sam Roadside Assistance is offering special introductory pricing for first-time purchasers.  Their Auto + RV Standard plan is $79.95 (regularly $117.95) HOWEVER their Auto + RV Platinum Plan is now also being offered for $79.95 (regularly $144.95) for new members.  It's being marketed as a "free upgrade" from the Standard plan.

Good Sam Roadside Assistance $79.95 + Free Upgrade

Just wanted to pass the information along.

Howard, Do any of these cover an HDT?

Mark & Jackie,

I believe they both cover HDTs.  But it won't hurt to verify.  The plans and what is and isn't covered tend to change from time to time.  They don't cover commercial vehicles, so you need to be clear that your HDT is a non-commercial RV hauler - don't call it a "semi".  :)

FYI Recently called GS ERA for assist. Had to send them a picture of rig to prove it was not commercial.  Sent the pic and they were satisfied. Fortunately solved the problem myself and didn't use them after all.

I have been a Coach-Net member and just checked my renewal online and it shows $79 for 1 year Basic $237 for 3, and $149 for 1 year of Premier and $447 for 3 years. So maybe for renewals it's a little different and we have a motorhome so I'm sure that makes a difference. I'm just saying that if you are currently with Coach-Net and need to renew instead of starting from scratch it may for some reason make a difference.

Doesn't anybody send renewal notices anymore?

Hdrider, I wasn't able to find any prices on their site, much less a comparison of plans.  They have managed to hide all the useful information.  My roadside assistance expires in a few days and if I hadn't called to check, I wouldn't have known.

I need to call again tomorrow.  Maybe the voice on the phone will know something.  As much as I despise the constant junk mail from gawd awful sams, it is looking better and better.

And what in the Sam Hill is a "suite"?  I want a towing service not rooms.  furious

Sorry, don't mean to rant but companies that use the internet to obfuscate simple things annoy me.

As a Coach-Net member you should have a password and be able to log into your account. That's where I saw the prices.

Thanks for the reply but I don't have an online account or password.  And frankly I don't want one.  I don't bank, shop, or do anything online except gather information.  I'll check my PO box today before calling but I really think they're lying about sending the notice.

Does anyone know where there is a simple table of what each plan offers and the cost?

OOPS!  I found my simple chart on the "bad sams" site.  biggrin  And I think the prices are better than I got from coach net last year.

It is too bad coach net can't afford a decent web site.  I've been a member for about 8 years and received excellent service.  I'll check my PO box one more time and call coach net but even adding in the GS membership their price might be too good to pass up.  And there is the chance that the poor CN web site is a harbinger of things to come at that company.

I suppose I can find a way to put up with the GS junk mail.  About 12 years ago I sold my house in Carrollton, OH to my Amish neighbor.  I spoke with him this spring and he's down to about 4 pieces of junk from GS each year.  Since he uses it to start fires maybe they'll send it to him if I ask.  wink

Thanks Howard.  You may have saved me bunch of cash.  I might not have remembered to renew and THEN I would have needed road service!
