Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Here we come!

Hi all! we have been researching the FT life for about a year now. I am retired and my sweetie works in a soul-killing job that is really hurting her. A very complicated situation. She is only 54 so drawing her SS will be a long way off.  Our plan is to move into a motor home for 2 years to save funds to enable her to quit and us to hit the road.  We have a friend who lives nearby and has horse property. She will rent us some space for $400/mo. That is significantly less than our mortgage.

Yesterday, we bought our rig. It's a 1999 Dolphin 3560. it's had one owner and is in excellent condition. We're excited and overwhelmed at the next steps of downsizing, selling and moving. I'm 59 and all the work involved is daunting. We have 3 furry kids...a large choc lab, a springer spaniel and a very bossy cat!  After traveling some we will probably find someplace near a beach to live permanently. We currently live in northern Colorado.

juls26,

Welcome to the forum!
If Natalie is only 54 and her job is really hurting her did you look into SSN Disability? Know 3 kids that started collecting at 18, 21 and 22 which is way below 54 IMHO. Do not know all the ins and outs but IMHO that is a job for a SSN attorney to determine if they can help you.

Thank you for that thought. It's extremely complicated because her parents own the business. She is the executive manager and her brother is the boss. The emotional stress is horrible............I'm a special ed teacher and I have experienced the difficulties that these extremely disabled kids have qualifying for SSD. I don't believe that SS would find Natalie eligible

I'm very grateful that we have a plan B with RVing full time!

I hear the mid 50's is the time to start applying for disability if that the way you want to go!! I was told by my SSD Advocate that after 58 it gets much easier. If you go on the SSD website it states what conditions qualify.

Any how welcome aboard!

Hey Julie and Natalie! I too am in a soul sucking job and counting down the days to retirement. We haven't bought an RV yet but have begun the hunt. We're going with a class c, a super c if we're lucky. Need to sell the house, sell the stuff. We plan on leaving nothing in storage and hitting the road. It's good to see we are not alone in this world. :c)

You are absolutely not alone! Freedom is a real possibility. We were pretty discouraged until we came up with our RV dreams.  You can too!

I can totally relate to working in a soul killing job. As someone who has recently made the transition I can say it is pretty amazing. Good luck to you both!!

Hello Julie and Natalie,
I'm 58 and Lisa is 62. We have bought our rig (Class C Holiday Rambler Augusta), sold everything in an estate sale and we are "camping out" in our house which goes on the market in a few days. Lisa will quit her job and retire at 62 when the house sells. Lisa is in a job that has taken it's toll on her stress wise and that is the biggest reason we said,"Let's go for it now!" We could of waited until she turned 65 but I don't think it would of been worth it for her mentally or in her soul. So....we bit the bullet and we are getting out of here and hitting the road as soon as the house sells.
Congrats on buying your rig and starting the ball rolling to go full time!
Peace and blessings,
Kelly and Lisa

Oh Kelly and Lisa I appreciate the encouragement so much! We are currently having some work done on the rig. That and a few mods should be done by the end of the month. Then we will start moving in and hopefully get our house on the market in July. Wooohoooo!

Good luck on your adventures! Maybe we'll see you on the road!

Julie and Natalie
