Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Flagstaff V-Lite for full time?

I found a Flagstaff V-Lite (30WFKSS) that I really like but I'm hesitant because:

1. It has a walkthrough bathroom (no separate potty room, just a walk through).  Does anyone have this type of floorplan and do you like it?

2.  It's a 50 amp.  I'll be volunteering at a park that's only 30 amp.  Will that cause a lot of problems?  What can or can't I run with the reduced amps?

My house closes this week and I'd like to decide on a trailer.   Going with a bumper pull because they are more in my price range and I won't be moving for awhile (still working full time). I know they don't have much basement storage but I really love all the inside storage.

Any advice you can provide is appreciated.

Jenifer,

I looked up the trailer online to find some photos so I had a better idea of what you are looking at.  You didn't say, but I assume you are a solo.

1.  The bathroom layout doesn't bother me.  Basically it's what we call a "split bath" with the shower on one side and the sink and toilet on the other side rather than everything in one room.  We have that floorplan with the exception being that the toilet is in an actual "closet" with a door rather than sitting what may feel like "out in the open".  But you have a door that closes off the entire bathroom, so while it might feel weird at first, adding another door or more walls in that small of a space would really chop it up and make it almost claustrophobic, in my opinion.

2.  The 50 amps is a positive rather than a negative.  You will want the 50 amps whenever it is available.  In the 30-amp park, you'll just need an adapter 50-amp to 30-amp adapter so you can plug into the pedestal.  In the 30-amp park, you'll be more limited by the appliances you can run at the same time, but you should be able to run a single air conditioner and all your other high-draw appliances (just not at the same time).

Certainly, that trailer isn't designed for "full-time" use, but you know that going in.  If you take care of it, it will last a good while, but just understand that it's designed as a vacation trailer, so more things might start breaking down sooner under full-time use.  As long as you understand that, it's in your budget, you like it, and it will serve your purposes, enjoy.  :)

Jenifer,

Besides what Howard mentioned, I would wonder about your location and its climate.  If you are in Northern Texas, the trailer may not be greatly suited for winter weather and if you are in Southern Texas, there would be the heat to consider.  Since it looks like this will be your home for some time, that might be a consideration for you.

Thanks for the updates. I am a solo and I changed and ended up with a North Trail 26BRSS, 30 amp. I only plan on using it for a few years until I can retire from my full time job and can get on the road, then I hope to upgrade to a 5th wheel or small motorhome. My house sold (we close this week) and I'll be volunteering at the lake park and it only has a 30 amp setup. I realize it's basically a vacation trailer as well but if it will survive a few years then I'll be happy.

And Terry, I'm in the DFW area so you never know what kind of weather we'll end up with. But I'm a pretty tough cookie so we'll see how it goes. I figured if people can live in a truck camper, van, etc this can't be all bad! lol
