Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Introduction and question

We’re David and Richard, we hope to be full time RVers starting in June 2016.

We’ve been together for 16 years and married for 6 months (Aug 2015).  We will be traveling with our two dogs, Shilow, a 16-year-old Border Collie and Scooter a 1-year-old Shiatzu Chihuahua mix.  Our 18-year-old, Rio, is staying in Minnesota for school.

Richard is a retired civil engineer, retired from the Navy as a Lt. Commander, is a published author and gourmet cook.  David is a professional coach, consultant and training working with LGBT issues in foster care. We were foster parents for nine years.

We’re looking forward to spending a year looking for home base, running a “home” based business on the road, writing and just exploring new places and things.

So, here's the question, what state would be best to set up domicile in terms of establishing and running a home based business?

Glad to be here,

David

Welcome, lots to consider on home base, with health benefits being a big part of the decision for many.

Have you checked out Howard's info on this? www.rv-dreams.com/home-base-selection.html

I don't have any expertise in domicile states for businesses, just wanted to say Hi! and welcome to the adventure, I hope you enjoy making your plans and getting ready to hit the road.

Health care is a big consideration so if you can retain military coverage that should be a help. And as far as other aspects of home business on the road, Technomadia is a good source of information, you're probably already aware.

Congratulations on your marriage.
You will need to do some research as far as which state is best for a business. Perhaps a Montana LLC might work and has the advantage of no sales tax on vehicles.
For a non business domicile the big three are FL, SD, and TX. All three have no state income tax but differe in things like health care and vehicle registeration. In addition, TX requires annual vehicle inspections. All three have good mail systems and make it easy to become a resident.
