Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
50/301 down and around thru Annapolis. You can either stay with 50 to 95 on the southeastern side of D.C. or you can drop down 301 and pick up 95 further south of D.C. towards Fredericksburg or stay with 301 to Richmond. to 64 -81

Safe travels to all, Take each day as a gift for that is truly what it is.
Our thoughts right now would be to go up the coast to NB and then back south through Quebec and the northern area of New York. We would then head south into Kentucky. Planning on about 6 weeks.
Would not do that right now as have you checked the weather! Looks nice now; but this coming weekend chances of Ice storms; snow and cold weather returning! I would go the route CJXS2fromCT suggested!! RVs don't do well on Ice!

Thanks Pieeere. I am planning the trip for mid June. We are coming up from Florida at that time and thought that"What the Hey" lets extend and see a little of the Northeast before we head back south

We're also going to NB this summer…crossing the border into NB about mid June and coming back over the end of August…but then we've got 3 weeks out on Newfoundland that you're not doing.
As for Delaware to Knoxville…get over to 95…we used to live in the DC area and unless it's rush hour when you're going through I would skip the 301 suggestion as that has you coming across the bridge down by Dahlgren, very narrow and tall bridge. Once on 95 go south to Richmond then get on 360/460 over to 81 through Farmville and Appomattox then 81/40 down to Knoxville. We've been that way many times…our son and DIL live in the Richmond area and my sister in Knoxvegas as the locals call it.
Thanks Neil. Now how does one avoid driving through New York City coming north from Dover, Delaware?

I would head north to Wilmington get on I95 N to Chester PA, then N on I 476 (becomes NE extension of PA Turnpike) to Scranton area, take I 84E crossing the Hudson river at Newburg NY continuing east through Danbury and Hartford CT to I90 at Sturbridge MA.....onward to NE destinations. Plan your route and make reservations early, especially for weekends or you may have trouble finding a spot in season. Safe travels! JohnM

Go farther west. We will be coming up from the Washington DC area and our first stop will be in Harrisburg PA then up into the Hudson River valley. From there we'll go across CT to Boston and then northwards. I can't think of any reason we would try to drive the rig through NYC.
You could the same…Dover to Harrisburg and then north into NY. There's a bridge near Red Hook over the Hudson to get you on the east side of the river…then you can head east on state roads or north to Albany which isn't too bad traffic wise before heading east on either I-84 or I-90…if you're not interested in Boston then just stay a bit west of it and take 495 around the city then 95 north. We've been that way before (albeit without the rig) and it's not too ad once you get around NYC.
Follow the advice of those advising to stay west of NYC. I know of a couple that went through the city area and their GPS kept trying to put them on the throughway that was for cars only. They ended up lost somewhere in the city. Finally with some help from a policeman, they got a route to a better road, but that route included a low overpass that peeled back the roof of their fifth wheel.

You don't have to go as far west as Harrisburg to avoid NYC, especially from Dover. You could go Rt 1 N to 95 N to 476 N to 78 E to 33 N (or just stay on 476 - it becomes part of the PA Turnpike North Extension - but it's an expensive toll) then 80 W to 380 N to 84 E after that you could pick up the NY Thruway or whichever road to get where you want to go. Not that going to Harrisburg is bad, just more miles than you really need to do. Just avoid Philly at rush hours and you will be fine. Done that route many times.
Thanks Neil. Now how does one avoid driving through New York City coming north from Dover, Delaware?
Having been driving truck over 20yrs in New England area, many of those yrs in the "big apple" area there are many ways to avoid the dreaded "big apple" I'm use to it though and don't mind it. From Dover... 301 north to 95... stay on 95 through Phillie... cross over to NJ and take exit 4 to 31 north... Follow 31 north to 202 east... to 287 north .... Now depending on where you are looking to go you can do a couple of different routes. 287 over the Tappen Zee (toll) bridge to 95 (the lower part of Ct) if you have no need to go that way then stay away. 287 over Tappen Zee to 684 up to 84 east into Danbury Ct. or 287 to 87 (toll road) up to Albany. This is the free way to go if you are looking to avoid tolls, no matter what bridge you cross over into New England you pay a toll...The higher north you go the cheaper the toll. Mah Wah NJ (route 17) is about the cheapest you will find fuel before crossing over. If you don't mind driving at night.... the later the better. Any more question feel free to ask. Safe travels. Chris

CJSX,
How are the road conditions/ traffic on 95 thru Philly? I find PA roads to be some of the worse maintained in the northeast. Also, what is 202 like in Jersey as far as traffic?
Thanks
95 through Phillie you are on for about 40 miles line to line, They weren't to bad the last time I went through there. 31 to 202 is a single lane (parts are double) 202 to 287 is double lane with stop lights. like I said it's free all the way to you get to the river. later at night the less traffic.
