Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Eye Glasses

Last year we had the dental experience in Los Algadones Mexico and all went well. We are now in the market for new eye glasses and were wondering if anyone has purchased theirs in Los Algadones. Looking for recommendations as to where to purchase and if the quality and pricing was good.

Or should we just try Walmart or Costco in Phoenix? confuse

Thanks in advance!

Also check the Hong Kong vendors, http://www.optical4less.com/ (whom we have bought from), and http://www.zennioptical.com/ (we have friends who like them).   It takes about 3 weeks shipping time.

"Algodones"  has Many eye exam and optical stores.I have found the prices in the past very favourable. You can find cheap and high end there no problem

Not sure this year but in the past eye exams are only 10$ vereses $59 at costco

If you have a script, you can get your glasses online. I've purchased from coastal, zenni, glasses.com, and maybe one other. You can try them on virtually (by uploading a picture) and so far, we've been happy. We have a simple prescription, and purchased glasses for around $15-$20 bucks a pair. Before we went on the road, we purchased around 3-4 pair for each of us, we keep one in the toad, one by the nightstand and a spare or two if we need them. I also got a couple pair of prescription sunglasses...not as cheap, but lots cheaper than the store. If you have a script, make sure it includes all the details, like PD.

I recently got two new pairs at LensCrafters and had a terrific experience including the eye exam. Not sure if there is one near you, but it was great.

15-20 per pair and left at nite stand sounds like ordinary reading glasses  not  prescription for distance etc

I got Italian made flex arm frames, anti glare, transition prescription glasses for 150$

This goes back a couple of decades, but I found that if one has bifocals or trifocals, one can have problems with those 1-hour places.  Back in the early '90's, I went to them for about the third or fourth time and they got me my glasses.  When I got to work the next day, products in our display cases looked smaller than I remembered them being.  3 trips back to the 1-hour place and they finally just got me glasses that were my old prescription, which was still an issue because of a change in my glasses.  Since then, I've never used anyone but an optometrist that will give a more thorough examination with test fanyor all three "elements" of the trifocals.

Now that I've had cataract surgery and have each eye focusing at a different distance, I've had glasses done for specific uses, such as one pair that are bifocals for when I'm driving at night and a pair of single vision glasses for when I'm shooting, either with firearms or taking photos of subjects at a distance.

Since my original issues with the 1-hour places, I've never recommended any of those places.

Thanks everyone for your input. We bit the bullet and got them at Costco. Dianne's brother and sister in law just got back from Los Algadones and said they didn't find any deals for what they required and also went to Costco.

Cheers!

Nope, not readers.  We leave by the nightstand to see the TV.  Sales section of those sites, combined with a promo code and you can get them pretty cheap.  Coastal used to offer first pair free.

Leslie just got her newest ones at Costco in Edmonton and then ordered from zenni to compare. Really pleased with Costco service etc and the zenni ones don't have progressive tint but are great too. Had to adjust and fit them herself. Of course Costco did fitting and a second adjustment on the arms for free.

Quality should always be your top priority when it comes to purchasing products. It's worth it believe me I had done mistake in my eyes during out of the budget time. Now my vision gets worst that I need to wear a super multi-coated eyeglass that no one ever dares to try.
