Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RV Pump Experts Needed

After four years, primarily being on city water, I was out to dump the grey tank the other day and noticed water leaking under the coach.  After checking things out, I discovered that the fresh water tank was overflowing.  Our Mobile Suites has a separate inlet in which to stick a water hose to fill the fresh tank.  (Some newer ones have a valve that allows one to direct the water to either the fresh water tank or directly to the coach's plumbing.)

After posing the question about my problem over on SOITC (Suites Owner's forum), I was informed that it was likely a bad check valve in the pump.  One gentleman even suggested changing from the ShurFlo to an Aquajet model.  They posted a link to RV Water Filter Store's website, so I'm kind of looking at the Aquajet RV pump instead of the Aquajet ES.

So, my question for the RV pump experts is this:

Have you had any experience with the Aquajet pumps, and if so, what is your opinion of those over the ShurFlo?  Thanks in advance for any answers.  All of you are greatly appreciated.

Oh, and yes, old dogs can learn new tricks, especially with regards to RV's.

We use the ES model. Bought from the same guys. No issues to date with it. I'd say we have pumped 2 years worth of water thru it.

Have no experience with the aquajet but if you had the Sureflo 5.7 you have done well. In 4 years I went through 3 Shurflo 5.7s while being on city water 99% of the time. It was a common problem. The other problem with the 5.7s I had was the constant overpressuring of the lines causing leaks at the manifold and any joints.

We had the ShurFlo in the Escalade for 8 years without any issues.  Have a ShurFlo in the Majestic for some 18 months – no problems.

However, I have seen the exact problem you are reporting in other rigs that seldom use the water pump.  I.e. are static and the pumps / check valves are seldom exercised and get dried out.

Many do have a rebuild kit if you want to tackle that rather than replace the entire unit. I know ShurFlo has one or you could put an independent check value in the output line from the pump.
