Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am Carol and hubby is John and I personally have been looking into full-timing since about 2007. Hubby was not onboard until recently so now it's time to plan! We have a long way to go but that's okay. I'm 52 years old and he's 50. House will be paid off in 31 months (but who's counting ). We don't have a lot of bills, so we're on our way to becoming debt free. Starting October 1st we began writing down everything we spend and I can tell you right now, that our area for improvement will be going out to eat or ordering pizza every other weekend, LOL!!!
We won't be on the road for at least 5 years, which is fine. There is a lot to do and a lot to research. I'm looking forward to every moment of planning and getting as much information as possible and making sure then when we do finally hit the road that we are ready and have no regrets!
I look forward to meeting new people on here and hopefully in person too! I'm sure I will have lots of questions!!
Welcome to the RV Dreams forum "family." You'll need to keep up on things as you go along because things change with regards to what is available on RV's and available to RV'ers that make their journeys better. At least you've got something already, so you could take little "excursions," just to get the feel on occasion. Jo and I had camped in National Forest campgrounds for decades, but then we took a 2 week vacation to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where we had full hook-ups. I think full hook-ups spoiled her in that two weeks.
While we haven't really taken advantage of RV'ing by traveling yet, it is nice to think that the whole United States could be our "back yard."
Enjoy the planning and research.
Terry

Don't forget about Canada too. Lot's to see here...............In the summer though.
Also the power of the dollar, it'd be like a 35% discount.
Not so fast there Bernie, sure the CDN dollar is cheap vs the USD but stuff is comparatively expensive for what it should be up there and there is that nasty GST and other taxes on every purchase that don't apply south of the border. Fuel is ridiculous in Canada even factoring USD conversion, that despite the fact Canada is overflowing with the stuff. Still, the USD does go a long way in the Great White North and I agree with your sentiment. Our bucket list includes various places in Canada that I didn't get to see when I used to live there. Like Banff, Okanagan Valley, Nova Scotia to name a few.
Trailerking - Baby steps is right!! I've been telling myself that and I have to slow down! I was looking at full-time RV'ing info for 6 hours yesterday and I ended up with little sleep because I put myself into a frenzy of OMG - what am I thinking?? We can't do this!!! Healthcare alone is going to keep us home!!! My Dream and My Nightmare, LOL!!!
On the way to work this morning I remembered your comment - baby steps. I want to have fun doing this and I have done this a couple times to myself now. I have to stop that! Especially because there is still a lot of time for us to plan.
Terry & Jo,
We've been to South Dakota for 2 weeks with our current RV in 2010. Last year we went to Niagara Falls and the Lake Placid area for almost 2 weeks. This year we stayed close to home and went to South Haven, MI. Each year we bring the RV to a friends property in Wisconsin and spend about 2 months there - well - the camper is there 2 months - we are there with it on the weekends, LOL!!! We used to take it to Nascar Races in Michigan. We own a campsite at Jellystone Park in Plymouth, IN and we're there as often as possible in Spring, Summer and Fall (when we're not traveling somewhere else with it).
We've been so fortunate! We are also planning a trip to the Outer Banks of NC next summer with friends that also own an RV. Now I'm trying to find a way that we can possibly make the 2016 Spring Rally in Sevierville! That may have to wait though because my husbands vacation runs from June 1st to May 31st so at that time of year when I have all my vacation left he is pretty much out of vacation I'm not too worried. We'll get to one of them.
We have already been looking at new or slightly used 5vers and have some idea what we want. We have a list of wants and needs going. We're just not ready to make that type of a commitment yet; to buy another camper. We go to the Chicago RV show every February and we also hit up a couple of dealers last month when we spent a week out at our place in Indiana.
John wants the full hook up sites when we travel and since he's the one that takes care of that "stuff", I make sure to get full hook ups as often as possible!! Last year when we went to Niagara Falls I found the best campsite we have ever had!! We stayed at Golden Hill State Park and our campsite was right on Lake Ontario. We had perfect sunsets each night and wonderful sunrises each morning - both right on the lake! It was incredible!! We only had electric, but John was fine with it!
I do really want to see more of Canada too!! I've only been to Toronto and then in 2012 we took the trip of a lifetime for our 20th anniversary and went on a 2 week Alaska Cruisetour. One of the excursions we went on was to the Yukon Territory! That was awesome! Then entire 2 weeks were the absolute best!!! Once we retire we would like to spend a summer in Alaska somewhere!
Okay - back to work for this one!! I'm on my lunch hour!!!
Thanks everyone and I look forward to chatting and learning more about this wonderful journey
