Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a winter seasonal campground in the Tampa, FL area? Would need to accommodate a 40' 5th wheel.

Starting full time adventure in 2017 so this is for future reference.

Don't know what kind of park you're looking for but we've stayed at a couple parks that were West of Tampa http://www.rvparkreviews.com near Thonotosassa. Quite a few parks in the Tampa area. Just have to do some research to see what looks good to you and give them a call.

If you don't have success in Thonotosassa, try Zephyrhills, which is a bit further out and full of snowbird campgrounds. We have not stayed in these locations, so we do not have specific recommendations.

Having lived near quite near Thonotosassa, unless you have to be really near Tampa try to stay up around Zephyrhills or Dade City.  Tampa traffic and the like is really not very nice.  Like terrible – especially for shopping in Brandon which is just south of Thonotosassa.

The campground in Thonotosassa, Lazy Days RV, IMO, is just a rack’em stack’em campground with lots of traffic right off I-4. 

A place we could recommend is Travler’s Rest up I-75 just a bit, a few miles west of Dade City.

They have a variety of options available and it is a nice area.  The park has been there for a long time but is extremely well kept with both long term and shorter term residents.  This is probably where we would winter if we wintered in Florida.  Out away, but close enough to all kinds of facilities in the Tampa area if required and a straight shot down I-75.  (Just don't go down I-75 at rush hour.)

Regardless of your selection, don’t wait till August to make a reservation, etc.  Florida campground, the nice ones, fill up quick and have a lot of repeat customers who make reservations a year ahead.  People on this forum are surprised you can’t call and make a selection in November.  They’re full and have been for sometime.

We stayed in Largo at Rainbow Village and had an outstanding time. It's centrally located and the people are very nice. They do fill up fast though so keep that in mind.

BTW-Thonotosassa is EAST of Tampa not West. West of Tampa is Tampa Bay (water) then St Pete & Clearwater.
Any comments on campgrounds in FL May - Sept?
