Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Weird Dream

Last night I dreamed we were camping in a desert but mountain type setting with a group.  My DW & I had left the trailer and walked over to the campfire area where the group socializes.   Sometime later, I went back to the trailer to discover it had been ransacked.  It was weird because the trailer wasn't our current 5th wheel but our previous Nomad TT.  I looked in the door and stuff was strewn all over the inside.   I never went inside.  The next part of the dream was a struggle to get the sheriff to come out and take a report.

The final part of the dream, I had picked up our dog and noticed it was very skinny and sad looking.  The dog wasn't one of our recent pets but one my family had when I was in high school.  In the dream I realized I hadn't fed her in 3 days....then I woke up.

The really weird part during the dream, I remember thinking that I would be able to post on this forum that it had finally happened to us; our RV had been broken into while on a camping trip.

It was one of those dreams that seems real and you are relieved to know it was just a dream when you wake up.

I guess the taco meat was just a little too spicy last night.

Soooo, be sure you trust the people you socialize with in campgrounds, be grateful the 5er is more secure than your former trailer, report issues to the park host before the sheriff, and most important of all DON'T forget to feed the dog!!

I think Brian has a new calling.  Perhaps he can find a way to "practice" while on the road?

In all seriousness, I believe that dreams are the way our subconscious works out what we are concerned about at night. In this case it seems pretty evident that you have concerns regarding the safety of your possessions in the rig. Whether that's situational (where you are parked) or a more general concern (let's face it ...wouldn't be tough to break into these things), it might be worth thinking about. In general when my mind goes down this path I think we are not someone most people would plan to target. If someone is going to go to some trouble they would probably go after a nice house. We could be an opportunity target though..someone grabs our outside things or checks the rig to see if the door is open. Some of the steps we have taken to feel more safe,

1. Always lock up when leaving...even if it is within the campground or a short trip to the store
2. Close the lower windows at night that are in the non bedroom part of the rig especially the window in our front door.
3. We have outside lights on a timer so when we are gone at night they come on automatically and we always come home to a somewhat lit house.
4. We use relatively inexpensive chairs most days and put away the more expensive chairs when we plan on being gone all day
5. Get to know your neighbors as they can provide a second set of eyes. I never felt safer than in the 55 plus community with lots of retired people who lived full time there. They paid attention to everything!!
6. Have enough RV insurance to cover what is in your rig. We actually calculated the replacement value of our stuff and upped the policy to significantly higher than the $5K that is standard. It doesn't cost that much more per month and since at this point almost everything we own is just stuff, it can be easily replaced as long as we have the money.

I know this is probably way more than your original post intended but seemed like a time to share what we have been thinking about.

so true about working out our problems in our dreams. About a month ago we went from a pop-up to a 41ft class A. We drove it 600 plus miles home and parked it in the Sams parking lot across a ditch from our house. I was too tired to unhitch the car and put the RV in the driveway. From our driveway I looked back at the RV and thought am I ever going to make the turn into our drive with that beast. Went to sleep and dreamed all night I was trying to get the RV in the driveway, when I finally did, I realized I took out the mail box and had damage all down the side.
The next day when I really pulled in the driveway I was watching that mailbox. lol
