Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Today is a sad day

I just logged in to change our "signature" since we had to say goodbye to our beloved Cocoa.  She was the BEST dog ever!  We had almost 15 awesome years with her, starting on Christmas morning 2000.  My daughter (who was 11 at the time) and I woke early to drive and pick her up.  We brought her home and put a big red bow on her neck and waited for my son (who was 9) to get up. We didn't need to wait long - and his face when he saw her was priceless! He trained her to do all kinds of things - which was easy b/c she was so smart.

He was sad b/c he couldn't find an affordable apartment that accepted larger dogs (she was 50lbs) so when he moved out she stayed with us and later she came with us when we started this amazing journey.  I'm just glad he was able to be there to calm her when it her time to cross the rainbow bridge.

Thanks it - thanks for listening!

Sorry to hear, I know how you feel. Hopefully Cocoa will become friends with our Duchess and Skoshie on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Loosing a family member is hard; and pets are a big part of it! Tears will fall and hearts will break; but have to remember we will always reunite on the other side! Condolences!

So sorry for your loss sweetie. Cocoa was such a sweet girl, but at least she's not in pain anymore.

So many fur people have crossed the bridge over so many years and we never forget them. I always hope to see them again when my time comes. That's where I hope to be - camping with them by the Rainbow Bridge. Your sorrow is shared by so many of us and we all wish you the best.

Really sorry Bill and Kelly about Cocoa and we know how you feel from losing our special Golden 2 years ago.   There's a spot where only he will ever fill regardless of whether you get another pet or not, and I truly believe that someday we'll reunite with those special pets.   Very sorry for you, in getting through those tough times, but he's not in pain anymore and he's always with you in your hearts.   Take care.

There is no shortage of sympathy on this forum as a great many of us are folk with fur babies. My Pepper went over in February. She was almost 16. I don't have the heart to remove her from our signature yet. I know how you feel Pat K

Thanks so much everyone!

We donated her stuff to a local animal non-profit. It feels good to know her leash and bowls and extra bed are appreciated and will continue to be used. The place we brought them either sells cheaply or even sometimes gives the items to people who adopt rescued pets. I think that would make Cocoa happy.

Just prior to our retiring and leaving Oklahoma, we lost both of our MinPins with less than a year.  Both were getting up there in age and were having difficulties, so we bit the bullet and had them put down.  It was about the right timing for us.

We've come to enjoy the fact that we no longer have to consider what to do with the dogs if we want to just up and go somewhere.  Last winter, I would get a kick out of the residents of the RV park having to get out in the cold and snow (not really that bad) and walk their pets.  One lady always walked her dog over to an area near us with a lot of grass.  I had to laugh one morning when that poor dog just went around in circles in the 5 inches of snow, trying to find a grassy spot to go on.  So, even though we don't have our own dogs, we can enjoy the antics of those belonging to others.

However, I think we've see the epitome of dog ownership.  Last week we were out walking the RV park for our exercise and saw a site with a travel trailer in it.  Out in front was a temporary fence set up, and there were 7 (yes, that's right - SEVEN) Shelties in it.  Now, that would give one plenty of exercise from walking them.

So sad. You have our deepest sympathy. Still, 15 yrs is a long time with a dog I have had many that lasted no where near as long. The longer they are with you the greater the attachment becomes. I was literally heartbroken for quite some time after the passing of Sunny, my beloved sun conure who was with me for 28 full years. Within a couple months of Sunny's passing I got another sun conure, not to replace my precious Sunny, but to fill the void in my heart. It worked wonders to calm my grief at Sunny's passing and brought new joy into my life again.

Here's our new Skittles. She is a little clown, with a completely different personality than Sunny. She also loves to camp, but isn't interested in exploring nearby trees yet as Sunny loved to do. Skittles will be coming with us when we go FT. Hopefully she will outlive me, as I don't wish to grieve another.

If you decide to get a new pet, it will surely ease your pain at the passing of your beloved Cocoa.

Chip

Thanks again everyone!

We still have our 2 kitties with us and I'm not sure if we will get another dog or not. After our Becky passed in March 2000 - it took months of my sons begging before we finally got Cocoa. I'm not sure how much longer it might have taken if he didn't keep asking all the time.

Glad that our folks here are chiming in with sympathies on the loss of your Cocoa. It does help to have your grief acknowledged by those that have been there. By the way, Sushi dog, your "Skittles" is gorgeous! Pat K
