Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi everyone! I'm an actor/writer/producer, and when I'm not doing those more glamorous jobs, I do film/TV production coordinating and management.
Despite the obvious use of RV's on a film set (like Leo DeCaprio's King Kong pop-out mega bus) there are other uses. Then I found this site and thought RV'ing was for retirees - not working folk. So "workamping" inspired an idea of having a mobile production office for hire meets my home on the road! Go down to LA for pilot season and not be on a friend's couch? Of course! Be back in Portland for a Ford commercial, and pop out the awning for craft services? You betcha! Be on location for 6 weeks and not worry about a skeezy motel but my very own space? Hellz yeah!!
The upshot for a film company to hire me: Many place just rent an RV for a location production office, but then you risk getting it damaged by a crew member trying to move it? And they don't have a CDL?? No thanks! Keep your money because I bring it with me, plus I would be an experienced/licensed driver (by that point), and I have the space if needed for union requirements.
It's a crazy idea, but the thought of having things come along with me where the jobs... hell that sounds like a movie right there! I don't know, something to plan for or just not realistic? At least I should take on a documentary about Workamping now!
Good idea! Chances are you will not need a CDL. There is a blurred line in what's commercial and not. IE- Are you using it(rv) to just sleep in, or actually "Working in it"? Is the RV being used to make money- meeting space, or just to hang out after hours? etc.
The one thing I do know, is that there aren't many campgrounds around LA and HOA's are tough on mooch docking (drive way camping at a friends place)
