Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We (Chris and Jo-Ann) have just joined after plowing through some of the forums and learning so much!
We have talked about RVing in retirement for the past 10 years or so. Each time we discuss it, we come up with a reason we can't...until this year. We are both retired, and fortunate enough to have myriad friends and family all around the country. We love the beauty of national and state parks, and we enjoy walking/hiking, observing nature, and visiting galleries and museums. Chris is a golfer and Jo-Ann creates quilts.
We have not yet decided on 5th wheel or motor home...it depends on what day you ask us. Yesterday we looked at F-350s to tow a 5th wheel, and today we are ogling class A's.
We plan to start off as snow birds, and hope the real estate market turns around in the next 2-3 years so that we can sell our home.
Welcome Chris and Jo-Ann! You will definitely get some feedback on here as to whether a motor home or 5th wheel is best.. :) Everyone is loyal to their particular choice, but there is really no right or wrong, just what you determine is best for both of you. I'd love to hook up with Jo-Ann to quilt! That's one of my favorites, and I'm trying to figure out a way to fit the big frames into our fiver. I'm not big on quilting with a hoop but guess I'll have to make it work since I'm pretty sure I can't fit those long frames in there. Take care and hope you find all your answers, and you're in the right place!

There is not a right answer regarding a Motorhome or 5er, but we chose to pursue a DP Motorhome. We leave D.C. in October to begin our full-time journey.
Hope to meet you on the road ... My DW loves to quilt and I've been known to slice off the "T" once or twice!
Welcome. We started out wanting a Class A but ended up with a fiver. Find what you're comfortable in, then decide. Lifestyles change, goals change, finances change. Ultimately, you find your home and are ready to be a bond, vagabond. Once you buy it, post a picture. Then we all say, seriously? That's what you bought? Snicker, should we tell them now or wait to see their reaction once they figure it out? Naw, we won't really do that. Or...

Thank you for the welcome Marianne, Jake and Mark! This board seems to have answers to almost all of our questions, and we are enjoying reading through the archives.
Right now I want someone to find the perfect rig for us and drop it off at our house.
Mark, we will give the board plenty of opportunity to mock and deride us! We take the job of being clueless seriously. ;)
Ahhh, if it (somebody else find and delivering the perfect rig for us) were only that simple! Welcome aboard... we are still at least 3 years from hitting the road and we are waaaay smarter than when we started out researching, but are also still newbs and even after two years of digging into the subject... we admit we know just enough to be dangerous Clueless? Nah, we'd never admit to that!
I think you'll find as you do your research that finding your own RV will give you lots of knowledge. We'd camped for years in tents and smaller campers, so I thought I already knew a lot of what was important. Boy, was I wrong!!!! With almost every trip to an RV dealer or RV show, I learned something new to look for in an RV or to avoid getting. We spent two years doing research on all kinds of RV's and put on lots of miles going to look at them. As a result, we ended up with a coach that we've been very happy with and have had no real urges to get a different one.
For one thing, one salesman told us of a customer that they had that ordered their coach with a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter and 4 batteries instead of two. I'd not even thought of that, but I'm glad we did the same thing.
Anyway, welcome to the forums and the RV Dreams family. Enjoy the research and planning.
Terry
