Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Black tank slide valve leak-by

Hi all,

It seems that my black tank shut-off (slide valve) is leaking by, allowing liquid to drain with valve closed ( pull handle not going in all the way either ).  May have something logged in the seat.  Is there a way to flush up through the drain line to clean it ?  Already filled and dumped the tank several times but it may still be leaking by.

Replace the valves. They will tell you it is a 15 minute job. Ours took hours because of position in the wet bay, but can be done.

You can buy a back flush valve like this, http://www.walmart.com/ip/7964401?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227009508143&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40839951752&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78653592992&veh=sem .  With this you can back flush the line and then try filling the tank to 2/3 with water and a mix of 1 cup Dawn dish soap, one cup Calgon water softener and drive  the rig around for 30 - 60 minutes to wash the inside of the tank.  Then when dumping push the valve in and pull it out several times until it moves freely.  This might possible dislodge whatever is stuck and it will definitely lube the seal and blade.

Thanks all for the replies.  Will try one or two if the situation continues.
