Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Relatives can drive you crazy

We're sitting here in Ocean City (Ocean Shores) at the Thousand Trails park for the 4th of July holiday.  Made the reservations 2 months ago because BIL said yes, they would be at their lot at Ocean Shores for the 4th and we would have a 'family' event.  Other BIL said they would be out sometime during the week.

Yet here we are, alone for the whole week.   We learned Saturday that BIL #1 (who owns the lot) had decided not to come - but didn't call and tell us that.  Saw him Saturday night and he said nothing about it.  I hate it out here, spent 1 week in the area several years ago and really never wanted to come back, but here we are.   Reservations for holidays in the PNW aren't changed at the last minute - - they are hard to get.   So here we sit, in the fog, for the next week.   Might see BIL#2 this week for a day, or not, as he has had a medical problem come up.  But we will get to see him the following week.

After 9 years you would think that they would have learned by now that we aren't flexible when it comes to the holidays - - we've had this problem before and I should have known better than to try and get together with everyone when we are here.  Hopefully the fog will lift sometime this week and it won't be all bad.   Temperature is certainly better than it was in Seattle when we left.

Been there done that! There's at least 1 in every family. We had reservations years back at Camarillo State Beach in Calif. made by a certain "individual". We were planning on going elsewhere but they talked us into the state beach so we changed our plans.

We crammed our RV into a space that was sized for a smart car and happily waited. They called us a day after they were supposed to show and said they changed their plans and would not be able to make it after all.

Lesson learned !@&$!!@&! That will only happen once!!

Since our relatives are driving us crazy in different ways, I am glad most are not campers.

Too bad you didn't end up here in the Long Beach area where you have multiple friends hanging out. We agree on Ocean Shores, there is very little to do if you don't gamble or sit and rot.

Totally understand! We had to rearrange our plans for the next 2 weekends due to my sister / niece's inattention to college orientation dates. So now we're trying to figure out how to show my niece all the fun places in Western WA on the 4th of July weekend and are faced with all the crowds that are typical in Seattle on a holiday weekend. My niece didn't understand why we weren't continuing with our plans to go to the Olympic Peninsula, had no clue that we couldn't find a place to stay on a holiday weekend without much more advanced planning, plus we'd have to come back for dentist appointments the week after the 4th. So my niece gets to enjoy a very non-scenic stay at the Fairgrounds due to lack of attention and having to reschedule her flight.

I learned the hard way: When life hands you lemons; make lemonade! Really; Had been a people pleaser all my life; and felt like I was getting the dirty end of the stick. I would then feel disliked or it was something I did that caused the problem. Now I usually make a couple or three other plans in case stuff like this happens. I think what happens is we are out of thier picture for so long that we are not part of their circle any more. So like I said; maybe Barbara you both can find other things to do in the area; a day trip; fireworks close by; maybe even a day boat cruise; Casino; etc.
When I went to the Adirondack area of NY last yr. Out of about five or six different visits my sister-in law and brother was a rude stop, when I knocked on the door she said where in the *&$#(*& have you been for the past 7 years. I said: when I lived here you (Her) treated me like you didn't care if I visited or not; seems like it hasn't changed, She said we thought you died; I replied; you almost recieved your premonition.; went to actually visit the brother and remained there for a couple hours speaking to him. Needless to say out of 6 more days I didn't go back.
I had fun visiting my BIL; some nieces and nephews; an old high school friend who we hadn't seen each other in 44 years; a c former co-worker. The saddest part; but it made me feel better was visiting with my sister wh was in the full-time assisted ward of the hospital. She has Alzheimers!

When some t.v. advertiser says, "We treat you like family!" I have a good laugh and think of Norman Rockwell's holiday pictures, Thanksgiving, Christmas, with warm and grateful family around the bird or the tree, and then remember after-dinner turning into twenty-year-old grievances thrashed out in high octgaves over and over and over each year...ad infinitum. It's funny now, so I have to laugh and shriek, "Oh NOOO! Not like family!! Please don't treat me like famileeeeeee!"biggrin

For years I heard my father say, "You can choose your friends; you can move away from neighbors; but there is nothing you can do about your relatives!"  At this point he would be 112 years old, and I think he had great wisdom back then.  Like some have expressed, it took me time, but I learned to depend on just us!

Have a safe and happy Fourth! And God Bless America!!!

Barb, are you referring to the campground listed on the TTN website as "Oceana?"

Yes, that's where we are at.

The fog was in all day.  Temperature not bad, but there isn't much to do here.  We've already geocatched the area, though there are a few new ones so we will try for a few.  I would much rather be at the TT park in Blaine, WA and driving over the border to spend the day in Vancouver, plus Birch Bay is off the sound, not the ocean, so when the Cascadia fault lets go, they will have lots of warning, not the scant few minutes they will have here.

confuseconfuse Pat K. Life really is to short and every day that goes by makes it that much shorter! I had to make a decision back when that I was not going to let any one spoil the rest of my minutes on Earth. biggrinbiggrin We have to make the best of the worst situations some times and if it takes walking away then that is what allows us to live with just a wee bit of sanity.
