Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Last Spring there was a discussion about what software to use to organize and edit our photos.  I have searched and searched and cannot find that thread.

 

So, can we open up this topic again and would you please share what you are using and why you like it.

Use the "Search" function above in the blue bar and type in "Software" and see if the several threads include the one you one thread you had seen.  If the thread you saw was not a part of that list of threads, try other search keywords like "organizing," "organized," or whatever else you think might work.

We use Picassa.

We have a huge job ahead of us as well now. We finally (after a year) cleaned out our storage locker, 75% of which the contents were bags and bags and bags and boxes of photos. Our daughter offered to scan them for us, but we have to organize them into digital folders. Not looking forward to that task!

I ~think~I am finally finished with this project. I literally had 100 years of photos to scan, including WWI pics of my great grand uncle and portraits of aunts from 1899. I made folders labeled yyyysubject. ie, 1983hiltonheadvacay. I used Photo Gallery to tag people. Bought 1.5 terabyte drives for each kid. Kids say they want originals - wait until they see how many there are. Have envelopes containing hard copies labeled to correspond to digital folders and a bin for each daughter. "heritage' pictures to be stored at oldest daughter's when we hit the road. This was our first big project in prep for full timing and took a couple months working on it an average of 6 hours a day. Kept finding more photos! We inherited all photos from both sides of family. Next up-the big purge!

Thank Cori that was the one I was looking for. Why it would not come up with picture in the search I have no idea.
I am still working on scanning the pictures. It is easy to find other things to do LOL

We have a few versions of software and applications for photo editing. Worked on a system for file naming and all that. Scanned most of our photos already. For travel and general photography, to include stuff I post to our blog, I decided to keep it simple and just use Windows Photo Gallery.

There are lots of good photo editing software on the market.  It's a matter of price and easy of use.  I've never liked any of the freebie downloads because they don't have enough features for someone who likes to play around with photos. 

For those who have hundreds and hundreds of digital photos, I would recommend using a cloud storage like Google or Amazon.  It makes it so much easier to access those photos if organized into files.  For sharing, I use DropBox.  That allows you to share a photo without re-sizing it for an email attachment.

For $10 a month Adobe has a photographers suite that includes Lightroom and Photoshop. $10 isn't much and LR does a pretty good job and organizing everything. The new Apple photo(if you have a mac) I hear good things but I'm pretty set in my ways using Lightroom. I host all my photos online with SmugMug.com Unlimited storage and I can share and even sell(if I want) but I can customize build my site to look how I want. Even the most basic looks are very pretty. Makes sharing with family, friends wonderful. Plans start at $40 month for Basic. $40 a month to store unlimited photos is a pretty great deal especially knowing the customer support is the best in the business. If you do want to look into SmugMug let me know and I can give you a 20% discount link..I don't want to spam the forum but those interested for sure let me know. If you ever meet me in person, I can talk your ear off on photos, editing, storage, etc....that's my life. :) I've sat down with many of my friends and helped build their site and answered questions. I love it.

I just use Google Photo. It is free and have over 20,000 photos up there.
