Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We just bought a 2007 Mountaineer travel trailer approx. We are having an issue with the kitchen sink. Water will not go down. My husband has done everything he can think of and more. Baking soda, vinegar, snaking, checking vents and we still can't find the problem. Anyone else have any suggestions as to finding the issue at hand.

Sounds like the next step would be to remove the trap and drain pipes to look for causes. The snake should have cleared everything but you never know what might be lurking somewhere in the plumbing.

If you can determine the path is completely clear all the way into the holding tank then there should be no reason the water won't go down unless the design of the plumbing path doesn't allow for gravity flow which seems unlikely.

Do you have a separate holding tank for the kitchen? Some trailers & 5th wheels have 2 gray water tanks.

We had this problem last week - that there seemed to be some kind of blockage in the sink because the water wasn't draining out. We bought a $2.50 hand held plunger at Home Depot and that did the trick!

not sure about two grey water tanks.  I will have to run that by my husband. We did do the whole small plunger thing as well and no luck :(

WE HAD a Montana and found out there is a 2nd gray tank. release is under slide

As I read your post, the first word that came to mind was "vent". Try to dump the tank, preferably with one of those clear "extenders" between your drain line and the "stinky tube." If the water flows quickly, then my venting thought is probably wrong. If it trickles or gurgles or doesn't flow at all, then the vent tube (it starts on your roof) might be plugged. There is a cap on that vent tube and it could be clogged, probably with caulking when the vent tube cap was installed. Or some other debris. Failure to vent will also cause the sink to back up as though it was clogged. Earlier posts suggest that you're dumping the wrong tank (i.e. two gray tanks). Do you have multiple "red light" sensor indicators on a control panel? That should answer that question.

I seen where the vent tube on the roof had fell down into the tank and could not work because it was sealed by the debris in the tank. It needs to be level with the roof. Take the cap off and look with a light.

Barb you nailed it. Second grey water tank that was out of sight at first glance. My husband was so mad I found the answer before him and me I giggled like a fool all weekend... hahhaa Thank you all for your help!
