Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

California Route 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg

We are traveling to Fort Bragg on Sunday pulling a 27 ft. Rock wood Lite with a 2014 Ford F-150. Should we avoid California 20 and take the longer route 128? Coming from Lodi, CA area.

Welcome to the forum! You should be fine on SR 20. We did SR 32 last year in our rig, which is a smaller road. With toad hooked up we are 60 feet in length. Take it at speed you are comfortable with and don't let anyone behind you make you hurry.

According to the CA DOT site 20 is an STAA route. There is one section between 1 and 101 that limits semis to <30 feet pin to rear axle. You shouldn't have any issues with yours.

Yes, you should be fine. It is very twisty, but there are enough turnouts you can use to allow traffic to pass (which you should regularly utilize). It is only about 35 miles long, but it will seem longer. It, however, is an extraordinarily beautiful, Redwood tree-lined highway. I would not recommend anyone take an RV up SR-1 from Fort Bragg to US101 (Legett) though. It is way too narrow with nearly no shoulders. Great for a car, but even a dually by itself would be dicey. SR-20 will work.

HighwayRanger: We've done that stretch of CA-1 with a 35' motorhome towing a car. Took us two hours to go 44 miles. If we had to we would drive it again, but CA-20 is a better idea.

I went through there in a Ford Expedition, Bill and it was beautiful but required close attention to staying in your lane! No margins for error!

We're working on buying a 43' Dutch Star, and I sure hope my RV GPS steers me clear of that stretch!
