Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My husband and I are planning to take our family on the road within the year. We are getting really close to the point of purchasing a used RV. We're planning to pay cash. We visited a dealer recently who casually said that we need to consider who and where we are purchasing the RV from so that we know we'll get our RV serviced if there is a problem. At the time I dismissed it as a sales tactic, but then I heard the same advice from someone who uses their RV on a casual basis.
I'm curious, if your RV breaks down (we are currently leaning towards a class a or c because we can get on the road sooner) is it difficult to find a place to get it serviced?
As you enter this great world of RV 's, you need to learn when a dealer or salesman is lying. It is when their lips are moving.
If the unit is under warranty, which most used ones are not, a dealer may hesitate to do warranty work if they did not sell it. ( Because warranty work is very low or no profit work.)
BUT if the unit is out of warranty you will have no trouble finding a service outlet or mobile repair that will be happy to do the work.
As a matter of fact, in nine years, the real trouble we had was to pick which vendor of many. We found that asking the office at the campground often results in the best referral.
Don't worry about it.
Happy Camping

I would not worry about where you purchased an RV since you will be on the road and not where you purchase anyway. I would concentrate on getting the floor plan which works best for you and then making sure the unit is sound with no major problems. Good luck with your search.
The biggest issue with getting service from a dealer or other source other than the one you purchased from is how quickly they can get to your rig to repair it. I suspect that some dealers might give a priority to those that have had issues after purchase. I remember that the dealer we purchased from got our rig in on the day after I called them to make an appointment. Since we were already living in our Mobile Suites full-time, they did quick service. When I took the rig in that next day, there were a lot of rigs ahead of us.
Of course, in our case, the Mobile Suites was the third RV we had purchased from the same dealership.
