Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Escapees Day's End Directory

Just recently subscribed to this and I'm finding it less useful than I had hoped.  We were primarily looking for yet one more "tool" to help us plan enroute stops when we're stopping for just one night and needing somewhere quick and easy to get to.  However, it's a text directory without maps or an easy way to search on anything, using the find feature helps if you're searching on a unique name, but, if you search on a term that is common you'll be going through pages of suggested matches.

Any suggestions / tips / tricks for making this a more useable tool in our research arsenal?  Maybe I just don't have the time or patience it takes to use this directory.

Oh! You're going to love this site link, NW!

It has all the places on the map for Canada and the U.S.

When you see my demonstration of a map in this link, just click on the ALLSTAYS button on the upper left, and select you're own locations!

I started using Allstays last year while traveling. Good app when going down the road.

Escapees Days End I never bothered with, it isn't done by Escapees as an organization, rather a group of people started it to list their driveway, etc., and they maintain it. Though I find the Ecapees park directory only a little better, at least a few maps. Nice thing about Allstays is they list discounts available like GS, Escapees, PPA, FMCA, AAA, an so forth.

Hey! Yeah! ...the free campsites displayed on a map in "freecampsites.net" is GREAT!

I got it bookmarked now!

Thanks!

...I'm going on my great adventure by the end of this year!

ps ...Never mind about the waste of money!

I have friends who have found that scouting is required for the places listed in freecampsites.net, since the listings are not that good. They get to an area and then use their tow vehicle or tow car to scout the locations. Nothing like going 2 miles down a badly maintained dirt road to find the camping now costs money, is closed, or will only work for a van or truck camper.

I use Days End with a computer mapping program like Delorme Street Atlas or Microsoft Streets & Trips (no longer sold or supported) and download a map overlay from the Discovery Owners website: www.discoveryowners.com/cginfo.htm With the overlay every town which has a Days End location has a symbol displayed. I look at those towns I am passing by, in Days End, to see if there is a suitable location for me to overnight.

I have to say that I use Day's End as much if not more to locate interesting and out of the way places to boondock or camp for multiple days rather than for overnight stays.

Another huge advantage to the overlays from Discovery Owners is you can download overlays for Walmart's, Sam's Club, Costco, Flying J truck stops and a number of other overlays.

There are overlays which can be used on some GPS devices, but I have no experience with using them.

I don't know if you realize that there IS a map with Days End Spots on it.
I use it for exactly what you are talking about-looking for an overnight spot on my route.

www.daysenddirectory.com/Days_End_POI_Map.php

its not perfect, but its a help.
I also use Allstays mostly but Days End is better if I want a quick overnight and not pay too much.
