It was a tough thing tonight but we lost our cat of 17 years. He was the sweetest thing, and our golden is already missing him. I know that it would have been tougher traveling with him, and our dog, but he was such a part of our life for so many years, that we will surely miss him. I know that he's at rainbow bridge waiting with our other golden retriever and playing in the sun and someday we'll see them again.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We had to put our 13 year old beagle down last Saturday. It hurts not to have her around. We started full timing in June and she had adjusted well to sniffing all the new places we visited. We noticed a lump on her leg and a vet recommended a specialist, so we took her to Auburn University vet school. The lump was nothing, but they found expansive internal cancer. We were able to keep her comfortable and enjoy her for a couple more weeks with medication.
When we started on this adventure, I thought of the early pioneers who buried their loved ones in unknown lands as they made their way west. I figured it would happen, but not so soon.

So sorry for your loss. I can understand and feel your pain.
We travel with 2 older pets (and one younger one) a 14 1/2 yr old Austallian Cattle Dog/Black Lab mix and a 17 yr old tuxedo cat. Neither are in the best health and I know someday - probably in the not so distant future - I will have to make "the decision". It is not an easy thing and makes me sad to think about but at some point we have to make it about them and not about us. At some point we have done all we can do and the best we can do is not be selfish.
I hope your happy memories with your fur friend help ease your grief.
