Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Bought my motorhome yesterday

My name is Dianne and I will be traveling with my 13 year old Yorkie named Gypsy.  My fondest desire was to have a motorhome and see this great country. That dream just came true! biggrin  I purchased a 2015 Thor Axis 24.1 and I LOVE it!!!

On October 6th 2013 my world stopped when my husband of 48 years, Jerry passed away. Six months later, I embarked on a 9,000 mile trip with Gypsy. Jerry and I owned a towable but I didn't want to do that, so Best Western and I became great friends. I was gone from my home in Georgetown, TX for 5 months. When I got home and celebrated my 70th birthday, I decided the time had come to get a motorhome. I live in a very fun and wonderful place, Sun City Texas. I have both daughters in Austin and tons of fabulous friends so leaving for long periods of time was a choice that took a process. I made that choice and will embark on May 5th in my new rolling home but I will keep my sticks and bricks for now. I will go first to Yellowstone to meet with friends from the Sun City Photographers Club For a photo shoot of hopefully bear cubs but all the babies of the forest who will be peeking out for the first time. Yes I know there will be snow, but I will stay with the club at a hotel. Following the shoot I go to Logan, UT for the Summer Citizens program for three months. I did this as part of my trip last summer and I loved it. Last summer I went all the way to Victoria, BC and back down the coast to follow the 101. I fell in love with the Oregon coast. I see a revisit in my future. I can't wait to see so many things. I'm heading out by myself on blind faith that it will be a good thing, and I truly believe it will be a fantastic thing.

I look forward to finally becoming part of the RV-Dreams family. In 2007 we had the pleasure of meeting Linda and Howard on several occasions because we were living in Louisville. We had an incredible Thanksgiving at Howards parents home. I loved his Mom. She was a hoot and a marvelous cook.  It will be wonderful seeing them. I will spend Sept-Dec here in Georgetown to watch my precious Granddaughter in her last season of the high school band as she graduates next May 2016.  SO....there are exciting times ahead. You'll be seeing my thousand questions real soon!!! wink

Welcome Dianne, I'm in my 70s also and, although I won't be doing much traveling for a while, used to be a full-timer. My great husband is still with me but he's had cancer and has planned a "just in case" scenario for us. We have our 5th wheel parked in an RV park with a mini-house right next to it. If anything happens to either one of us, the other one can travel and still have a safe place to stay when travel is not possible any more. I enjoyed every minute of our full-time days and I hope you will enjoy yours. Plenty of ladies (of all ages) RVing around the country and I wish you the best.

Dianne,

Sorry for the loss of your husband and congrats on the new Thor. I wish you the best in your travels. I also travel with a 2.5 year old Yorkie named Fin.

First I would like to say I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband.  I lost mine in December and I am familiar with all of life changes.  Second, Congratulations on your new RV.  We had been RVing 2 and a half years before Bill's passing. Now I am in AZ where I have taken lessons to drive our coach and am workcamping for awhile.  If you come through Benson I would love to meet you.  It sounds like you have quite the plans made for the coming year. May you have safe travels.

Dianne, I can't begin to imagine how you and Loretta have handled the loss of your soul mates but it is wonderful to see you both determined to continue with your dreams. There are lots of solo Rvers out there and having Gypsy will certainly keep you company in your travels. FWIW: Here are some sites I've stumbled across that might be of curiosity for you:

There is a lovely lady that keeps this website: Maliasmiles.com - I've enjoyed lots of her travels and when her mum traveled with her was wonderful as well. RVSueandCrew.net is about RV Sue and her Canine Crew and is an interesting read of how she choses to roll very frugally and off grid generally. There's also lonersonwheels.com a club that has I think about 50 chapters across USA and Canada, that might be worth your checking out.

Happy Travels To You

SD.

Others have expressed my sentiments better than I could, but welcome to the forum and to this awesome lifestyle! I hope we have a chance to meet on the road some time (check out RVillage.com -- it's a great place to keep track of where we all are)
