Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Well, it appears the repair / potential engine replacement on our truck is going to be a lengthy process and we can't stay where we are. An event is coming to town and this RV park will be fully occupied. So now we're trying to figure out how to get the 5th wheel moved.
Our Ford Extended Warranty doesn't cover it, Coach Net only covers the first move due to disablement, our Ford roadside assistance is only for the truck, not 5th wheel. So we're now we're looking for options, called a couple of tow companies and they don't have the ability to move the 5th wheel without the truck.
Any suggestions? Trying to figure out if I need to find an RV transport company or if I have any other options.
Call a local dealer and see if they know of someone who would do it. If Good Sams member, see if one of the locals, can't think what the specific name what the volunteer helpers are called, would help.
We had friends at the RAT (Riverside Adventure Trails) that had a mover come in and move them down the road to another RV park. Maybe call them and find out who they recommend. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, we might have found a solution. We have a mobile RV tech here in this park who is a full time resident with a truck and 5th wheel. Dale asked him yesterday if he also moved rigs and he said he would!! Now I just have to find a place that is far enough away from the Laughlin River Run event that isn't raising the RV rates sky high, but not so far away that it's outside the area this guy is willing to tow.
@Linda - learned a lot by going back and re-reading your blog. We are trying to stay positive but are we're starting to get a bit impatient just to get it all resolved now. The hardest part is not knowing how long this is going to take and not being able to make any plans, not knowing if we need to cancel our next art show, etc.
We've gone into this FT lifestyle with the attitude that breaking down could happen at any time, was probably inevitable if we were going to be on the road for a while, but we were sure hoping it was not anything that would delay us for weeks which it looks like this will be a longer delay than we ever anticipated.
However, we also know that if a breakdown had to happen, this was a better case scenario than many others we've heard about. We were only 10 miles outside of a town with inexpensive RV parks, we had cell / data coverage when we broke down, it wasn't the middle of the night or in inclement weather, we had just finished our last art show for 6 weeks so schedule was more flexible than normal, etc. While we wished it had never happened we know if could be a whole lot worse.
When I look back over my life, the hardest times were the times when I felt like I was in limbo. Not able to make decisions because of the unknown. These were the most stressful time for me. I always felt so alone during those times. I feel for you two and hope your limbo time will be short.
I agree with Linda and Ruth - we started out on the road at the end of June and in these past 9 months there have been 3 times where we've been delayed and were in a total state of limbo (July when I dislocated my hip; Jan. when we had the accident with the tree & retaining wall; and Feb after the boondocking rally when we needed the king pin and 3 other items repaired). Each time we counted our blessings that it could have been much worse (hip: we were at my brother in law's house and we able to stay with him for a few months while I healed; accident - insurance paid for hotel and meals for the 2 weeks it was in the shop; king pin: lovely place to have to be stuck). But still -- it's just really hard not knowing how long the situation will last and not being able to make plans.
Our bedroom slide doesn't go in all the way on one side, and we still get a bad odor when we empty our tanks (I think there was damage done to the tanks during the accident and it may need to be replaced). We made an appt with Tom Johnson's (at the family reunion rally end of May), but I'm already expecting the worst - that we'll be stuck in Marion, NC longer than planned.
Anyway, keep your chin up! It could always be worse.

Barb - it wasn't bad fuel, still don't have the final diagnosis, but something about a "thrown rod" and possibly having to replace the engine. Dealership thinks it all should be covered under our extended warranty, which we decided to buy after hearing about Howard & Linda's costly engine replacement.
Meanwhile we paid the weekly rate at the RV park we've been in this week and got a nice surprise, their weekly rate includes 2 tickets to the dinner buffet and 2 tickets to the breakfast buffet at the casino across the street. We're not gamblers, but we'll take free food and Friday night is a their seafood buffet
Oh I hope your warranty takes care of it! It would make me feel so good to know that our engine ordeal helped someone! Did you find someone to tow your rig out of the campground?
Ruth, glad it sounds like the warranty will cover it. I didn't think the new Fords (6.7's) had these problems like the 6.0's and 6.4's. Curious if the dealer will give a reason for the melt down.
Ooh, BTW blackjack is pretty fun.....you know since your there and have time on your hands. LOL
Red - will let you know when we get the final diagnosis. We're avoiding the Blackjack tables, headed to Hoover Dam today for some site seeing in a very small rental car, will be strange to be tourists without our big truck.
Linda - Yes, we have found someone to move the truck, actually have 2 options, waiting for one to call us back with a price and then we'll make a decision.
Thanks everyone for all the support, not what we wanted, nor where we want to be, but just one of those bumps in the road. Trying to see if we can get Ford Roadside assistance to cover some of the extra costs incurred that aren't covered by the extended warranty. Stay tuned, the fun never ends!!!
Ruth we are all thinking about you. It could happen to any of us and as usual you are handling it with grace. Linda just so you know I bought our extended warranty as well because of your experience. First time in my life I "warrantied up" lol but the peace of mind was well worth the additional cost.
Ruth I am trying to play 'catch-up'. So sorry to hear about this ordeal. It sounds like you have most under control. I hope everything gets resolved. Thinking of you.
