Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi all.  

I shed lots of hair when shampooing and with long hair I am worried about the hair going down the drain.  I currently have a hair catcher screen that fits on top of the drain cover that came with the RV.  This is great at catching the hair but makes for a very slow draining of water. Even worse if I use a body wash that creates any amount of soap bubbles.   I am wondering if hair gets down into the gray tank if the hair would catch on the sensors and if so, how would I get it out.

Being that you haven't received a reply on this yet, I'm going to try to give it a shot. 

I would think that you should try to keep as much hair as possible out of the gray water tank. I would imagine that it could get on the sensors and foul them up, and I can't think of any way that you could clean them off as there's no flush system on that tank. 

Don't have any suggestions on what you should do except keep using the hair catcher.

Maybe someone else will chime in with a suggestion.

I don't remember anyone having a hair problem in their grey tank and I have been watching messages a long time. Yes, hair can plug the shower drain, but that is different.

The tank sensors end up being clogged by just about any of the stuff that goes down the drain...soap scum, body oils, dirt..etc. It's tough to keep them from clogging up so I wouldn't worry about hair.

To stop the hair at the drain look for one of the sink/tub strainers with the raised screen. The screen sticks up about a half inch. This allows the hair to get caught along the side but the water can still drain through the top of the strainer. You may end up with 1/2 inch of water in the bottom of the shower until you remove the strainer.
