Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

AC thermostat acting strange?

Strange Question:  (and I've had my share of them this month (Sigh...See Cheryl's blog for details!)

AC seems to be fine EXCEPT for the fact that my Bedroom unit is NOT shutting off.

It seems to be running 24X7 (unless I shut it off at the thermostat control in the front).

is it possible that the sensor in the bedroom is clogged or broken?

Is this normal, possible?  I don't think it's the thermostat controller, as the Main AC seems to be acting fine.

Oh Well.  Back to my lovely "life" in the middle of no-where.  To be positive about it, we ARE in the middle of nowhere, but only 2 miles from civilization, not 20 miles to the nearest store!

And no, we haven't moved from the location of the boon-docking rally yet.

However, we think we've located our replacement pin, and now we just need to get it!

Taking to heart the expressions, "Home is where we park it", and "It's not camping, it's an ADVENTURE!"

Mitch,

Do you have the fan set to ON instead of Auto?

On our AC, when the fan is set on HI the fan does not shut off unless we turn it off at the Thermostat but the compressor does go on and off based on the temperature setting on thermostat.  The fan will shut off an on in the Auto setting.  Not sure about the low setting as we don't use that setting.

I agree it sounds like the fan is not on auto. I have been told that when it is over 90 out, to set the fans to on/hi to keep the air moving.

Before seeing this post, *I* took a look at the fan setting, and lo-and-behold, it was set for "low" instead of auto. Gee, I guess I do know more than I let myself think!!!

But here's a question -- if over 90, is it better to have the a/c fan running or the fantastic fan? Or a portable desktop electric fan?

Ooh-wah, HAPPY DANCE here.. (will skip emoticons--despise them...)

YAY team.  And yes, Cheryl DID figure it out.   THANKS to everyone for giving us (for a change), an EASY and CHEAP answer for this one!!

And we proved it worked by having it shut itself off correctly.

...HAPPY...HAPPY...HAPPY...HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if only I could get my parts approved so it could ship and I could get out of here.

[of course why would I complain? 80-90 degrees all week,   hookups, sewer, no other RV's for miles, a nice pond, a pair of ducks, a pair of sand cranes, only 1.5 miiles from civilization, and even HUGE fires when we feel up to it!!!]

ALMOST PARADISE!!!

IMO – Do not run the AC’s fan without the AC compressor running because the air ducts are in the roof and the roof is actually heating the air as it is circulated by the AC fan.  (Well, some RV’s have ducts and I’ll bet yours does.)

Run the fantastic fan to get the hot air out of the rig.  I.e. run it in the exhaust mode.

Desktop fans are best to move air over you and that helps.  They do little good for the rig temp wise as such.

Mitch,

In the summer (up to 115 degrees at one time), we run the a/c units on automatic and also have a couple of oscillating fans (Hunter Retro), one for the bedroom and one for the living room area.  Like Bill says, the fans won't change the temps but air circulation is also important.  In addition, not being happy with the units stock ceiling fan, when ours started getting noisy, we replaced the stock 4 blade fan with a Hunter 5 blade fan.  We can actually tell the difference in air flow between the 4 blade and the 5 blade.
