Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are planning a trip to New England states. Want to see Acadia National Park but can see parking there will not work for us. We have a 36 ft 5th wheel and want elec and water. Bay Harbor seems like it will be near the park. Any recommendations for early October this year 2015. thanks

We spent a portion of three summers in Maine, and enjoyed Acadia and Cadillac Mountain very much.
The closest we stayed to the park was at Mt. Desert Narrows. It was not our favorite type of CG, but it was a great place to spend five nights while we explored the area. We spent a month the next year in a small CG in East Orland, ME - about a 45 minute drive to Mt. Desert Island. The highlight of that excursion was to go to SW Harbor and catch the "mail boat" out to the Cranberry Islands for the day - what a day!
Be sure to see the sunrise from atop Cadillac Mt. Due to its eastern most position and the elevation, you will be the first person in the U.S. to see the sun that day.
Be aware Maine CGs end seasons late in October.
Enjoy!

Check out Narrows Too near Trenton. It is big rig friendly and has fhu. We stayed there a couple of years ago during the whole month of July and really enjoyed Acadia. You can see Cadillac Mountain from many of the sites there. Most sites are open but several have trees around them too. October will be chilly but a lot less crowded.

Take a look at Bar Harbor CC. Just a few minutes from the main entrance to Acadia. They don't take reservations but should not be a problem that time of year. They close Columbus Day weekend. We will be workaping there this summer and would love to say hello.

When we were in Bar Harbor many years ago at the end of September, the town was already shutting down. Some places were closing October 1st, others were closing Columbus Day and few were staying open later than that.

There are a number of campground options when parking near the attractions near Bar Harbor, Maine. The one we used last time there was the Timberland Acres RV Park. Like almost all of the CGs up in that part of the country it’s very family oriented with amenities to fit family needs.
Out in the back section where we parked, the pull thrus are huge, level and roomy. We got a very generous military discount there making it just that much more desirable for us. It was our home base for two weeks. Not mentioned in the CG web page is the fact that the Walmart is less than a mile away and free parking for the free shuttles to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park are just a short distance down the road. Also on the same road is the - must go to - Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound.
For the first day of our stay we had most of the back section to ourselves. Then they started showing up. Hitchhikers, we were surrounded by them. Over the next few days more than 40 of them showed up. They even had a Hitchhiker rep traveling with them. They were all part of a large Hitchhiker club from Texas and were staging up for a caravan tour of New Brunswick & Nova Scotia.
Thanks to all of you. Very helpful. Any more info is still appreciated. We leave a private RV park here in Texas in 3 days to be camp hosts at a Texas state park for 3 months. Our adventures continue!
