Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I'm thinking of installing a tire monitor system, anyone have any experience with the screw on cap type of sensors . They are much cheaper than the internally mounted sensors. Don't know if they would perform well.
thanks for your replies.

I've been using the the TST 507 from http://tsttruck.com since 2012. I like the fact that I can change my own batteries. The theft proof cap was a pain on the inside duallies so I removed those two Theft proof caps. The sensors have not been an issue however I am on my 3rd monitor. The original monitor would no longer hold a battery charge anymore and was replaced with a reconditioned one for free by a vender at the Quartzsite RV Show last year even though it was out of warranty. That unit started to drop out sensors last November so I called TST and they sent me a "new" replacement for free...again even though it was out of warranty. So even though I have been disappointed with the monitor issues, I've been very well looked after and overall I'm satisfied with the product.
The other popular system is from Pressure Pro. In any case it is recommended that your valve stems be changed to steel ones.
We have been using the TireMinder system since 2011. Very happy with the product. We had one sensor fail, and found that it was due to water incursion caused by a cracked plastic cap. Minder Research sent a new sensor, and six replacement caps, at no charge, two years after purchase. Excellent customer service.
We have the TST 507 unit also, so far it has worked very well. Notified us of a low tire pressure right off the bat. turns out I didn't get one of the monitors on tight enough. but the main thing is that the alarm went off (that is unsettling for a new driver), pulled into a parking lot, check the tire, filled it up with the air compressor that I bought after reading about it on this site. and off we went. pretty smooth.
We have used Pressure Pro from day one FIVE years ago and have over 50,000 miles on them. ( we had to curtail travel the last two years!)
When we store the unit I remove them as this saves battery life as I was told by the company. We have not had to replace any of them.
NOTE: when I screw them on I use a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the valve stem so that it does not turn when I snug the sender.
Second: I placed dots on each, 1,2,3,4 to indicate which tire it goes on so that I do not have to re calibrate----ever. I just make sure that I put them on the appropriate tire. This also facilitates tire rotation.
