Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I can't find many answers anywhere else, so I figured I'd come to the experts...We're going to be towing our 2014 Jeep behind our Class A MH, but can I tow a utility trailer with an ATV attached to the Jeep at the same time?
Technically, yes as long as all the capacities and ratings aren't violated. You won't be able to back up of course but you pretty much can't do that anyway.
Whether er it's legal or not is another question and I would imagine the answer varies by state and whether you're on a federal or state highway.
Not all states will allow it, so you will need to check your route. Worst that will happen is that someone will have to drive the jeep & trailer following the motorhome to the next state. HOWEVER (you just knew there was going to be a however, right?) you need to also look at your towing capacity for the motorhome as well as your stopping capacity.

Technomadia has an app available called "State Lines". That gives you the laws by state regarding towing. I know double towing is not legal in WA or CA. Most states have a total length limit as well, some of the NE states have a 60 ft limit which I think you would be violating.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! Yes, we could get a trailer that would accommodate the Jeep and ATV, but I'm worried about what I would do with the trailer at the CG since it would be a good size trailer. The total length as Dale and Ruth stated above I think would be the real issue. The other, and more important issue, is that we really don't want to look like the Griswald's or the Beverly Hillbillies rolling down the road. Hahaha So, I'm thinking the ATV needs to get sold and pay it off...one less bill to worry about! Thanks everyone!
We tow a 2004 Chevy Z71 extended cab with a Rzr in the bed. Total weight of truck + Rzr is 5400#. Makes life much easier than a trailer.
Depending which size atv you have maybe you could tow a smaller truck like a Chevy Colorado? It would still make a nice off-road truck. We've taken the bigger Z71 on some pretty rugged off-road trails.
We actually just bought the Jeep in preparation to go full-timing, so I really don't think getting a truck would work for us..hahaha. I'm not too concerned about the ATV, as in it's not something that MUST go with us. We still owe some money on it, so I'd be just as happy selling it for what we owe. That would be one more bill that we can get rid of before going full-time. I asked the question about towing it with our "Toad" just in-case it doesn't sell very quickly.
Hmmmm, so, anyone interested in buying an ATV? Hahaha
