Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Yet more newbies

Hi to all

We are Mike & Claire.  Unlike many of you, we will not be full-timing.  We are partially retired lawyers who recently settled in Tucson from Seattle.  Found a beautiful home with a great view of the Catalinas.  Finally got tired of the dreary winters after almost 40 years - the beautiful three month summers cannot make up for the 7 - 8 months of drizzle, fog, low clouds and darkness.  Tucson is the perfect antidote.  Sunshine is the rule here, not the exception.

We have been looking at RVs for about five years.  Finally signed a contract yesterday for a modest, short used Class A for weekends and more extended trips.  Now that we are fully committed, we have so many questions and we stumbled onto this website  in looking into the wisdom of extended warranties, and Howard's article on the website.  Looks like all of you folks possess a large trove of wisdom and experience.  Glad for the privilege of joining up.

The dealer yesterday was pushing to sell us one of those extended warranties.  We would greatly like to hear from any of you on your experiences with these or opinions.  We would like to have some coverage but not at the cost the dealer's program would bring.

Claire & Mike

We purchased a used class A a year ago and shopped for the extended warranty. There are so many electronics, gizmos and other things on the coach that could break, we felt it was a good investment. About a year in and we've used it to fix the fuel pump on the aquahot and one of our AC's. While a little bit of pain (just the process), so far we're glad we bought it. Welcome!!

Howdy Howdy Mike and Claire,

Welcome to one of the best RV Family sites on the web. I normally tell the folks who happen upon this site that this is a Family of RV Dreams that range from Corp. CEO's to Janitorial Services and everyone is willing to share their expertise in helping YOU.

Welcome and Enjoy...

ps. Sr Fox, who is a regular on this site is also from the Tucson area.

Mike and Claire,

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  You are right in that there is an exceptional pool of knowledge in the folks that make up the forums.  Plus, Howard and Linda's journals and other articles are also of great importance.  Good luck on the research and planning.

As for the warranties, check out Wholesale Warranties here on the website.  Watch the occasional advertisements as they do advertise here, and I think Howard is associated with them some how.  Here is a link to Howard's page on the website for Wholesale Warranties.

We've had warranties, although not Wholesale Warranties for some time and enjoy the peace of mind that they do help.  In another RV at one time, we had to replace a 19" TV and it was done through the dealerships.  Considering what they charged for the RV, it was a blessing that we didn't have to pay for it.  That said, there are many major components on an RV that can be expensive to repair, especially if one's motorhome has a diesel engine.

Welcome Mike and Claire. Don't feel bad about being a newbie because we are also. You're actually further along than we are because you already have a vehicle. We're still in the research phase before we take the leap and go full-time around July, August, September of this year.

Welcome Mike and Claire. Some of us choose to self insure and others are willing to pay for the peace of mind. If you're on the fence I would probably buy one.
