Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

hmmhmm Sad to say this but I am leaving this Forum. Been on it too long and since I no longer travel or work camp; I have nothing much that I can relate too. Some of the newer members seem to have outclassed my meager lifestyle. crycry I don't enjoy getting my feelings hurt when I try to be of assistance to one member and another jumps in and makes an accusation (makes it look like it could be directed to anyone). I removed my comments from that thread for the benefit of doubt.

This RV Forum used to be one where others had concern for each other; guess that has changed!!!

Pieere, I would gently take issue with your last sentence. I've seen mainly helpful answers to my questions. I've been corrected here more than once, too, and sometimes those corrections have been made less kindly than I would like. I've also learned quite a bit from those corrections, too.

You have quite a bit of experience that can be of help to those of us who are still learning. If you are concerned about the responses to your public answers maybe you can send a private message. Yes, that takes a bit more effort, but keeps the conversation between you and the person you are trying to help.

BTW, the "Lebanon" in your signature jumped out at me, since we live near Lebanon, MO. Then I noticed the state. Here I thought you were just down the road from us. Oh well, we'll meet up with you some other time.

Pierre, sorry to see you go, I know I have learned some important stuff from you.
But I still do find the forum has many helpful and careing people.
Please understand that sometimes things come across harsher when written instead of spoken. so most may not mean to be ofenceive but come across that way by accident. So I for one hope that you reconsider as we can all still learn something from your many years of experience.

Sorry to see you go, have always enjoyed the wisdom of your experience on here. However, if you're no longer getting enjoyment from the forum or feel disrespected then you have to do what's best for you at this time. Glad you didn't just disappear

Stay well and happy.

Ed, not all of us can afford the huge (and very expensive) Class A's and fivers. Some of us live on extremely modest budgets and have no retirement funds or any back-up chunks of money. We don't travel from resort to resort, we keep our rigs together sometimes with duct tape and baling wire. Outclassed, definitely, outcast no.

True, not all threads apply to us and some of the topics are too rich for us. Frankly, some of them are downright boring to me. However sometimes we get a gem of information that makes it all worthwhile. Some posts seem a little too abrasive but we can take it with the proverbial grain of salt. On the other hand, I enjoy some controversy, it adds some spice to the mix.

You have a wealth of experience and, like Lucky Mike, the positive attitude that keeps us dreaming. If you leave us you'll be sorely missed.

Maybe I'm one of the outclassers ? Or one of the folks that ticked you off?

I think you make alot of assumptions on folks. Just cause someone has a new rig and truck, does not mean they are not "like minded" .

In my case I worked hard for the past 30 or so years.. Never saved a dime. Have no retirement plan, and will be flat broke in 4-5 years, unless I do something to change that. Yep.. I was lucky to able to recently make a little money .. and I have spent a good chunk of it on a trailer , and stuff to go continent fulltiming.. Because my whole life I wanted to do it. And If I didn't do it now, I never would..

Most likely I will die broke , on social security (or disability, if they ever give it), maybe in a trailer somewhere. But for now, I and the wife are out to have a little fun.. maybe the last bit of fun we will ever have..

So Pieere, not sure if it was something I said, or someone else did.. But it's hard to judge a book by it's cover. You've always seemed to have a great attitude, joke alot, and obviously a ton of experience. It's obvious you are well liked here.
No need to get so aggravated that you shut down something you enjoy. Personally, I am trying to learn to ignore "things" that aggravate me.. not just here, either. While, true, I like a good argument.. sometimes it's just not worth it..Most of the time I want to try to share a opinion or a piece of knowledge, and it just seem to post wrong.. Lately, in most counts, I start typing.. then just delete the post, and say screw it..

So hang in there.. get over your issues, and move on.. Good luck, Man.

Pierre,

Don't let the bad outweigh the good. Not all of us are well to do, some just chug on day to day.

Your experience of being on the road is an invaluable resource to those of us researching the lifestyle or just getting their toes wet. Everyone has something to offer and if others don't like it, fine. Let it roll off your back.

We can't change things we cannot control but we sure as hell can help those who need it!

If you don't come back, you will be sorely missed. I know I've picked up helpful pointers from your posts over the years, as have others I'm sure.

Sometimes, all it takes is an assumption on either party's part for hurt feelings to occur. I believe that we should all be grateful for any day we wake up and can continue on with things. That being said, as my husband and I plan for our future time on the road, I have found this forum to be an invaluable source of information. Many times I have mulled something over only to sign on and find that a discussion about that very thing is taking place or has taken place. These discussions and postings are made up of a population of the real world. The real world is made up of some that have more "things" or "stuff" than others or believe that their "things" or "stuff" are more of an ideal solution than others. But, such is life. "More" or "more expensive" does not equal better or more satisfying and if "lesser" is done right, "more" is not safer either. I have not come into contact or read any postings by anyone who has genuinely tried to put anyone else down or tried to make them feel less than they are. I have never been happier than I am when traveling with my husband in our travel trailer. Live and let live, and "happy" kicks "big budget's" *ss! Pierre, if you get any enjoyment out of being a part of this forum, stay, and don't compare yourself or your circumstances to anyone else's because we're all unique and you seem like you could give some great advice to people who might need it.

Some real good points here. This isn't a one way street; I signed up here hoping to be part of what looked like a nice group. I bought my coach not that long ago and have questions from time to time about general RV type topics and thought this might be a decent place to ask. Less than 24 hours of being here someone made a smart-aleck comment about my position in life. I don't apologize for having nice stuff - Its my business what I do with my money. Haters gonna hate. I would encourage the OP to ignore the offender and keep moving forward.

I apologize again FinanceGuy............................I'm sure you are referring to my comment.

It wasn't intended to be a smart-aleck comment about your position in life.

I'm definitely not a "Hater" , I actually envy you. I congratulate you for what you have. I sure would like a Prevost or similar along that caliber.

I used to have my business website of my Machine Shop posted in my signature but had it removed because I was being "Labelled" as a rich snob...........................Go figure.

Sometimes these "Open Forums" can be real "Drama Clubs".

Pieere, it's too easy to misconstrue a misplaced or misspoken comment on the internet.  Sometimes you need the facial expression, the tone of voice, real knowledge of the speaker and so on to put the comment into context.  Bottom line, you are your own person, with plenty to offer and others may or may not listen to what you have to say... that is okay. As to what exactly tipped you over to leaving the forum, I shall quote a line from an old "Star Trek" episode by that fountain of wisdom Doctor McCoy...

"...What the Klingon has said is unimportant and we do not hear his words."....

I suggest you just ignore the offending stuff, and continue like it was never said. Take the high road.

If it's too late for that I, for one, will miss your perspectives.

Hey hang in there. I have been on many message boards in my life and some are just not worth it. I becomes what you make of it. Remember that the best or most expensive guitar does not make the best music. It is the heart of the player that makes memories.

Actually, it was my comment on the thread about winter camping (Diana & Jim) where I basically state that I think Diana & Jim are in the best position to determine what is needed. This was after it being brought up a few times that they needed to vent their unit. Anyone that is keeping up with the thread realizes it was suggested, which is fine, but Diana & Jim responded that they didn't feel vents were needed and that they were monitoring the humidity. To me, it got to the point that it was insulting the OPs. Am I sorry for my post? No I am not as this is not isolated to this particular thread. There are suggestions and assistance which is good but once someone has decided on a path continuing to bring up your suggestion becomes insulting to the intelligence of the member. I think that PIERRE came in a little late on the subject and taking offense to my post seems over-the-top to me and I was not singling out anyone and trust me, if I intended that, I would have gotten the job done and no one here would have a doubt in their mind as to who I aimed a post at. When I have something to say, I do it and could not possibly care less about being banned anywhere on the internet.

As I brought up before, the full-time RVing world is no different than the rest of society. It is often portrayed as a lifestyle where your economic/social standing doesn't matter but I haven't seen that and I have been "around".

Pieere,

I am another of those in the camp of "hope you change your mind."  You, Sir, are a veteran, so allow me to take this time to thank you for that service to our country.  I also want to thank you for your contributions to the forums.  Your insight is valuable because I'm sure that lots of folks would like to follow this dream but are on limited budgets, so your contributions are extremely valuable to them.

I really do hope you change your mind and stay.  If you do, I'm sure that many others will appreciate it as well.

If you do choose to leave, just let me part with, "May God bless you and give you much happiness."

Terry

Pierre…don't leave. If someone offended you then discuss with them in a private message or just ignore the comments. Too many good discussions here with a lot of people contributing to get mad and go away methinks.

I've had several problems over the years myself with accidentally offending folks…I tend to tell it like I think it and sometimes a lot of the humor or not-quite-serious nature of a comment gets lost in the translation to bits on the page versus BSing with your friends around the campfire. I've accidentally offended a whole bunch of people over my lifetime…and usually apologize if inadvertent offense was taken when it wasn't intended. Not that offense wasn't ever intended ya know…but I do enough stuff wrong accidentally that I try not to do it on purpose unless I mean it.

I'll just say don't go Pierre, don't let snarky stuff make you go. I really appreciated your posts. Since we have been full-timing since June of this year, we have ran into many snoody attitudes, etc. Its not any different if we were not full-timing - you can't always get away from it. That stuff is a reflection on those being snarky, its not a reflection on you.

If you have a problem with my posts, I suggest you take it up with the moderator as that is the way it is supposed to be addressed.  People that cannot handle an opposing opinion to their view really shouldn't be posting on a public forum and feeling singled out is more a reflection of what is going on with the individual reading the post than the one writing it.  Seriously, I am sorry to learn that I would need to choose my words very carefully when posting because someone, not mentioned, might feel that I was setting out to emotionally destroy them.  I also think it was classless for the OP to post this rather than going to the moderator with his complaint.  While everyone deserves to be equal here, I don't think anyone needs to be considered superior which is what the OP seems to imply.  It is OK to have an entire thread attacking my opinion regarding a situation but wrong for the OP to post an entire thread on my snobbish attitude.  When you are offended by the way a forum goes, what you do is leave but this was obviously not the purpose of the thread.

I understand the frustration. We previously had a DRV and was active on Suites forum. Well any mention of our Teton and I got blasted. I removed Teton from signature and purposely would not mention my Teton and still got blasted. Had to finally leave. When you no longer feel welcome it's time to move on. So sad but true.

Since PIERRE is still on the forum, last accessed it yesterday, it is probably a moot issue about whether or not he is leaving. While a post indicating his decision would have been nice, I think we can assume he has decided to stay. Good news.

So back to the weather, and holiday décor, and tire size, and pics of rigs and pets, and most importantly supporting each other in this wonderful community of Dreamers!

Sheesh, let up on the poor guy. No one would have known he was referring to you had you not made the post identifying yourself. As to "I am sorry to learn that I would need to choose my words very carefully" I think most would just consider that common courtesy being cognizant of the next persons feelings.

That's an odd group over there. I looked around a bit when considering a trailer RV and found them to be bizarrely pro-DRV. Fanatically so would be an apt description. And intolerant of others who may have felt otherwise. It was a very strange environment.

While I am hesitant to close this thread due to my belief that Ed could use all the encouragement that he can, I think it is beginning to get out of hand with respect to comments that aren't encouraging.  Thus, I feel the need to close it.
