Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Water hook ups.. Softner, flush connections, regulator, adapter, quick disconnects..

Ok..need to Install a 16k water softner I just got.. seems like a good time to get all the water hook up stuff done..

First.. I have a grey water flush port , and a black water flush port. I see some folks run 2 water hoses to the rig.. I sit a month at a time. Was thinking splitting the water at the supply.. one hose to the water softner, then into the city water connection.

The 2nd hose , split it at the trailer , install quick disconnects , and feed both flush ports.. so I can control the water into either one of them when I dump.

Thoughts on this? does anyone hook this up to make life a little easier ?

only scare would be freezing..maybe tape the whole assembly together with a heat cable on a thermostat.. Plug it in if needed?

Thoughts?

Since you're in FL for the winter, I wouldn't worry about the heat tape. It would take freezing temps for several hours with no sunlight for your hose to freeze.
The way I would hook it all up-
At the park spigot- install a Y
On the side leading to the gray and Black tank- put a backflow restricter- take that hose to the RV and add another Y to split to the individual gray and black tank sprayer hookups.
On the other side of the RV park spigot Y- install your pressure regulator, or not your preference.
Run your hose to the RV to the water softener tank, then thru any filters, then into the RV. Most folks try to put the tank out of the sunlight to help protect it from UV exposure.
I have our regulator and filters installed permanent in a compartment. But we also run off our own pump and water tank exclusively.

Very important to use a back flow restricter on your flush hose. You don't want to contaminate your fresh water.

Ok.. sounds about what I was looking at doing.. Will look first to try and get the softner inside.. though I doubt it.

The whole house filter is in there.. will see what I can do today..

Was 35 degrees one day last week.. I think it's going to be cold in fl.. running heat every night now.

I think south fl would be ok.. only got to low 40's last year in ft meyers.. in feb.

There must be one on the rv ? or the water would just pour out from the flush port..right?

Plus it will be a different hose for the water supply..

I always use separate hoses for flushing and drinking. I would never do what you are contemplating. Anything mechanical can fail.

A hose for flushing.. a different hose for drinking.. yep, that's what it says..

Maybe you where confused with the y in the flushing line? I have a black tank flush port AND a grey tank flush port.. so the flush hose get's split to both..

no matter whether you have 1....2 or 6......an operational backflow prevention device is required at the source that you are drawing your water from to attach it to your waste system not at the coach....

There is something on the supply line that is part of the rv parks system.. Pretty sure it's a backflow valve.. will ask before I hook it all up.. Pretty sure I have a couple that came with the rv too.. I thought they where regulators.. I think they are back flow valves..
