Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Ceramic backsplash tile

I am wanting to put a ceramic tile backsplash in our new RV( current one is cheap and ugly)

Anyone ever do this?  Man in Lowes said the heat and cold, plus flex would break the adhesive

loose.

We were told from a tile layer that we could use a product called loctite grab it and a flexible

grout.  I would really like to try it and I wondered if anyone else has tried something similar?

Thanks!

Personally speaking, I wouldn't add the WEIGHT of TILES to the RIG!

but that's my $0.02 ..

Home Depot has a tile product that is in sheets, that looks like ceramic tile, but is actually a plastic or vinyl. I've seen several that look great.

Ours has glass tile. I wonder what they use to hold it up.

I'm with Mitch and would be concerned about the weight.

There are urethane grouts which are very flexible. If it's done properly you shouldn't have a problem. I wouldn't be too concerned with the added weight of a backsplash.

We added a backsplash in our kitchen. We used the thin glass tile sheets that we found in Home Depot. I forget how much it weighed but it was not more than ten pounds. There were some heavier ones but we did consider weight in our choice of tile. Here is my blog post about our mod. It was almost a year and a half ago now and there have been no issues during travel.

I used granite tiles cut down for our backsplash along with using them on our countertops. Been on the now for over 2 years and no problems.

We also installed the thin glass tiles from Home Depot. They are only 1/8" thick and extremely light weight. We also used the adhesive sheets to stick them to the wall and grouted them with flexible grout. They have up on a wall in a slide for two years and no problems.

Thanks all for the great responses. Based on all your answers, I think we will go with it.
I hope to find a light weight one to use.

If you don't want to mess with tile, you can get a piece of Plexiglas and cut it to fit. That's what I did. It wipes off easily. Here's a pic! Note the screw at the bottom right corner. I have a screw in each corner.

Good idea Joe! We did go ahead and put up the tile, found some that weighed just under 2#'s each, needed 6 total. We pulled The paper off the wall, then mounted it directly to the wood using loctite grab, heavy duty. Going to grout this weekend with a good quality flexible grout. I'll post pictures later. Thanks again!

We put up a backsplash using the Smart tiles from Home Depot.  They look fantastic! You get the best price by buying the box of sheets instead of individual sheets.  My advice is read the directions then throw them out and use common sense! A cutting board, a metal straight edge and a good utility knife are all you need.  Oh, and patience :)
