Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi everyone, I've been reading here for several years now. This is my first post, I really have learned a great deal from all you good people. Thanks for being here.
I think I'm about to be a full-timer. For the past 3 years I've been slowly getting rid of my "stuff'' Last winter I decided that was the last cold winter I want to live through. This summer I started selling things, everything I own except my dog, and my scooter. My house just went on the market, I started packing what few things I will be keeping, That being mostly my tools, clothes, and personal items. I have had no trouble at all get rid of stuff. The less I have the better I feel. I joked the other day that I want to be in the enviable position of being debt free, no house, truck, money in the bank and looking for ??
Now I'm looking at all the different types of RV's available, I only want to spend 20k to 40k. I'm keeping all my options open right now.I'd like to keep things as simple as possible, so I'm not sure if I want to tow or motorhome. There are many advantages for each different scenario, as you all know.
So my name is Dave, nice to meet you all, hope to see a few of you down the road.
Welcome Dave. You lurked on here a long time, so you already know the ropes and the friendly folks hereabouts. We will add your distinctiveness to ours... resistance is futile
Welcome and congrats, Dave! As far as what type of RV, that is a matter of personal preference and your comfort level. 100 of us could easily give you 100 different answers. Have you towed anything before? Is their anyone locally that can let you get behind the wheel of a motorhome and a pickup/5th wheel combo? A friend or a dealer? The first time I towed our 5th wheel was a daunting task, but I am very comfortable behind the wheel of our rig now...even more so than I was with our old Sunline travel trailer, as the tail doesn't wag the dog anymore. Our reasons for getting a 5th wheel over a motorhome were the increased headroom (I am over 6 feet tall) and the fact that we only need to maintain one engine (no toad). But that's just our preference. Having a small toad for a daily driver would be fun also. We did rent a motorhome in Alaska once and loved it. The security of not having to leave your sleeping quarters to get behind the wheel when boondocking is one benefit of a motorhome over a 5th wheel. There are plusses and minuses to every type rig available.
Being in Ohio, can you make a quick trip over to Hershey, PA this weekend? That would really let you see what's available. And used rigs are available, so search the web to find them. Being a carpenter, you should be able to handle any issues that may crop up with a used rig.
We totally agree about the "stuff" and how it can make someone feel better seeing it go. We were pop-up camping last weekend and I said to my husband "Right now, tell me what you would need from the house if we never returned?" There really wasn't much since we had the family and pets with us. So, we understand, welcome and best of luck for quick sale on your home as we understand about facing another winter also and I hear it will be colder and snowier than last.
Thanks for your replies, it's good to know such wealth of information is available here. My stuff sales are going well and house may have an offer soon....
