State Parks starting from the north that are big rig friendly - Fort Stevens, Nehalem Bay, Cape Lookout, Beverly Beach (not sure on this one), Jessie M Honeyman, Bullards Beach, Cape Blanco (Technomadia is here through October), Humbug Mountain and Harris Beach.
Fort George is a good brew pub in Astoria, Chowder Bowl in Newport and Bridgewater in Florence for seafood.

We enjoy the Barview Jetty Campground a little North of Tillamook http://www.co.tillamook.or.us/gov/Parks/Campgrounds.htm It's a County Park and you can get in there with just about any size RV. We had a 45' MH the last time we stayed there.

Take a walk out on the jetty and watch the waves and boats in the evening. Great Views.

Winchester Bay, just south of Reedsport. It is one of the nicest on the coast.

It's funny how we live in Oregon but can tell you about more campgrounds in other states but Jessie M Honeyman, Bullards Beach and Winchester Bay are a few good ones. We normally camped by the sand while living in Oregon because we had the toys that went along with it and hey, so do you. Down the same road beyond the Winchester Bay RV Resort are a couple dry camping spots we used to stay at when we had the sandrail. It shouldn't be to busy this time of year mid week with school back in. Easy access to the sand.
And farther south before you get to North Bend and Coos Bay is another pretty new campground called Rileys Ranch that has sand access. We have not stayed there but would like to. It has a very nice setting. I think it has water and power. It's right before the scales I think.

And of course there is a big gravel parking lot by the Mill Casino you can dry camp. It used to be free but we were told while there that they charge now even though we sort of slid in the middle of some rigs that were for sale and spent the night un-knowingly biggrin

Come see us at Cape Blanco State Park! We're lighthouse tour guides here for Sept & October and the campground is fabulous! The majority of the sites can fit a larger RV, and they're all first-come first serve. $22/night in Sept, $18/night in Oct. All the sites are water/electric and I believe there are several that could fit you. Just be sure to arrive before about 1 or 2pm to get your choice of spots.

And ... lighthouse!!! :) Great hiking here, beach access and the town of Port Orford is just 9 miles away.

We're here at Nehalem Bay State Park in northern Oregon. Big rig friendly, nice environment, just on the other side of sand dune from beautiful beach, and close to Cannon Beach, a really nice little seaside town. The coast is very dramatic in this area, which we love. $29/night. We're really happy being here, I'd recommend it. Enjoy!

Favorite stop for us is the Tillamook cheese factory, Dale like the Pelican Brew pub in Pacific City and Wild River Brewing in Brookings.

Love Fort Stevens State Park, we've hiked small portions of the Oregon Coast trail. Ecola State park has some great views and hiking trails, no camping but a great day visit.

Lighthouses all along the coast are great to explore.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions...I knew the RV Dreamers would come thru! Cherie we were at Cape Blanco a couple of years ago in Feb. It was cold, windy and rainy. The lighthouse was closed so we just might stop by for a tour. We would love to meet you guys.

Cherie [Technomadia] gave good advice about Cape Blanco State Park! We stopped there Wednesday. Couldn't get a site because it was full, but wished we could because it is so nice. We ended up at Humbug Mountain State Park which was nice, big rig friendly, same price, but not as nice as Cape Blanco.

Cherie - we were hoping to meet you guys but missed you, it was your day off. Looks like a great volunteer gig! The lighthouse was great. Thanks posting that good advice.

Yes.. for sure. With this marvelous weather this week, the park has been full every night! Sorry we missed you, but glad you had a great visit!

If anyone is wanting to meet up with us as they pass through, feel free to ping us and we'll let you know our schedule (it rotates every week) and/or make some time for you in the campground.

Always love meeting dreamers, just please don't just show up at our door - we sleep odd hours and usually doing 'real work' when not giving tours. :)

We are heading to California via the Oregon coast, at this time of the year will reservations be needed in the State Parks? I don't want to if I don't have to, really want to be able to stay a day longer in some locations if we would like.

Pam,

We are wandering our way down the Oregon coast right now. We are mid way having started in the Northern tip at Fort Stevens. We have seen 5 of the 10 lighthouses thus far. Highway 101 and the small loop roads have been amazing to see. Do not miss Otter Crest Road loop when you get near Newport, maybe the most amazing 8 miles of road I have ever seen.

We have not made reservations at any state park and have only been turned away from one due to our length. There are so many options that if one were full just move on down to the next one.

With all the sights to be seen we have a hard time making 80 or 90 miles per day. There are too many wonderful stops. In our loop of the USA this last year I can say that the Oregon coastline has the best state/national park system we have seen anywhere.

Enjoy your trip. No firm plans is the way to go.

Thanks everyone for the info on reservations, we will be leaving in a few days and will just stop when we are ready and move on when ready, the trip won't be as slow as I would like since we have to be in Los Angles area on the 5th of October but we will have a few days to just enjoy the coast.
