Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Just FYI regarding domicile/residency and exiting. When we went full time 1 15 months ago it was simple to change our mailing address online at USPS.com. As we are exiting, I attempted to change our address back but because we were using a "commercial mailing service" I was unable to do it online. I went to our local PO and asked about it, and because we had left a mail forwarding request, first we had to cancel that. Then we were told we must change every single address from which we were receiving mail individually and keep the commercial forwarding service until all is complete. Fortunately we were mostly set up for email so not so many needed to be changed. However, then the PO stamped some of our new mail as "undeliverable" and returned it to the sender. Cottonwood Water Department does not offer email billing only snail mail. Fortunately they called us before they shut off water. I should explain that we were back to the same address we had left 15 months prior. So exiting from a commercial mail forwarding service is not easy.
While I'm at it, I was frustrated several months before as I started receiving heavy Glamor magazines addressed correctly to me at the forwarding service address. I am not the Glamor magazine type and had never subscribed so we paid for those forwards until I told the service to stop forwarding any magazines, my only option.
To top that off, I would go online with my iPad and change the entire sequence of our mail forwarding. I would receive a confirmation and for the first week it was fine. Then the system would automatically reset itself to the prior address. This happened several times, and we'd both double check that it was done correctly the 2nd and third time.
Finally, I phoned our mailing service to permanently change all forwarding once a week to our now address. That was fine for two weeks then I received a confirmation this week that I was ordering daily forward shipments!
Of course "we have never heard of this before".
Has anyone else experienced any of this?
Sherry

Sounds like your forwarding service has a bit of a problem, and unfortunately it is one that can bite any of us. Please keep us informed about how it is resolved.
As far as canceling your forwarding service, you were given correct information. All mail forwarding services are commercial enterprises, and the USPS delivers to their door (the street address part of your private address). The only way the USPS would be able to change the address would be if ALL of the mail was changed, for example if the service moved to a larger location down the street. Change each item as it comes, and all should be taken care of fairly quickly. A dirty trick (NOT recommended) for companies you don't want to hear from is to not change your address and then cancel the forwarding service.
I am sure you were given information when you signed up for the mail services about the steps you needed to follow when exciting the service. These are REQUIRED by the Post Office, unfortunately a lot of people don't keep their initial paperwork or read through it. I notice that you didn't say who your mail forwarding company is. Might be helpful to others.

We dropped them earlier this year when we switched to Texas domicile in order to get health insurance. We also had to change each of our address' individually with those that mail to us. We did not experience the "changing forwarded address" you describe from America's mailbox but we were never overly impressed with their customer service to begin with. We once were in the Rapid City area and wanted to stop in and p/u our mail. I emailed them the day before and we stopped in the next afternoon, they charged me an additional $1.00 charge out of my account because I didn't give them 24 hours notice. I checked my email and it was sent at 2 pm and I picked up my mail at 1:30 pm the next day, 23 1/2 hours later. $1.00 certainly is not gonna break me but that is not the way to treat a customer when it's your customers alone providing your livelihood. Just rubbed me the wrong way especially when they have huge letters over their desk "WELCOME HOME". Never felt welcome there either in person or via telephone.

Yes, Carol, we're primarily stationary. We might be taking the Trilogy to our lot in California for a "2nd home" but that remains to be seen.
Ruth (NWEscapees) you'll get a kick out of this. Every SINGLE day we are putting "stuff" from the Trilogy and taking it to the house. There is STILL a lot in here!
Newer RVers, you won't need as much stuff as you think! 😄

Had to laugh at your last post Sherry. When we changed from a 5er to a MH we ended up throwing out 5-6 garbage bags full of "stuff" and donated a couple more. Where did it all come from??!! LOL
