Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
What do you use to cover vent returns on the floor when they are not in use? We are not RVing yet but plan to RV with a cat and want to keep its fur out of the floor vents. Thanks. :)
USAF Retired 2010. Began full timing June 2015, ended Dec 2018. 2007 Allegro Bus 40QSP with 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland TOAD. Our blog: keepingupwiththejonesrv.blogspot.com.
We actually just took the vents off and used that Press n Seal stuff (like saran wrap kinda). We tore off a piece that was obviously too big for the hole and laid it across it. We then just put the vent back on, screwed it in and cut around the edges to get the excess off. Fairly simple and cheap.
I just replaced 4 out of 5 of them with ones that can be opened and closed , I did have to trim the floor to make the opening a little bigger to get the to fit but the new ones are much nicer than the factory installed ones . the 5th one I could not replace do to the duct was not wide enough to accomodate the larger vent cover.
More questions. What is thin magnet material? And wouldn't covering the returns place stress on your furnace or AC?

I don't know about the strain. Perhaps someone else can answer that.
I'm not sure if both of you are referring to the same thing, but the original poster's comment was related to when the furnace is not in use. Basically, the covers then primarily prevent things from falling into the vents. When it came time to heat the coach again, the magnetic material (or whatever else us used) would simply be removed, or in the case of closeable grates, reopened.
