Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Generator question

I'm confused. Looking at an onan 6kw (QD6000) unit, I find it is single phase and has a 30 amp breaker. They specifically state that it will easily run two AC units.

30 amps, single phase, two ACs? Is it magic or am I missing something?

Should have a 50 amp capability.

The nice thing with that model is it's a variable speed depending on load demand. Quieter and better on fuel and wear & tear.

Looking at the spec sheet –

https://powersuite.cummins.com/PS5/PS5Content/SiteContent/en/Binary_Asset/pdf/Consumer/specsheets/a-1486.pdf

This unit has a two pole, 30 amp breaker.  That means you can have two 120 volt legs, each breakered at 30 amps, to feed each leg of the coach.  A maximum of 50 amps total between them, but with the dual 30 amp feeds each AC unit will have plenty.  Most AC units draw around 15 amps if they are 15,000 BTU units.  A bit less if they are 13,000 BTU.  AC units are, or should be, on opposite 120 volt legs in the coach.  This is the normal way they are wired.

FWIW, I’ve actually run my two 15K AC’s off one 30amp breaker but that’s all that was on in the coach.  Everything else was on inverter or gas and it was a solid 30 amps without much voltage drop.

Properly wired you should be just fine.  More than enough, IMO.  I assume you’re going to mount this on the tractor – hence diesel.
