Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Questions on Internet/Cell Set up

Okay...we finally have had a little time to focus on figuring out our connectivity and hopefully have assembled all of the things we need to get connected.  First, not a technical person, but have read the MI Handbook and Jack Mayer's info and think I have a basic understanding of what we need to do....but have a few questions.

First, our equipment:

We purchased the new Wilson cell booster - 460108.  While I have nothing to compare it to as it's our first booster, it is working pretty good.  We are in a campground where at best, I get one bar.  The booster gets me up to three or four bars, which is great....HOWEVER, I have to be very close (within a couple of feet) of the indoor antenna to get that level of boost.

Wifi Ranger Go and Mobile - If I understand it right, the Go is acting as my router and I can connect devices to it by either utilizing the campground wifi or my AT&T cell phone hot spot (we will get millinecom at some point).  The Mobile will boost wifi signal so hopefully we will have options or stronger signal.  We'll install the Mobile on the roof and connect (via cable) to the Go.

Hopefully all that is good?  And if so, my questions at this point have more to do with the actual installation of all of this.  We are in a 45' coach and trying to figure out where to set up.  In our s&b, we had the router downstairs and we could get internet in the whole house.  Question 1:  Any specific advice on where we should install in the coach?   Is there a maximum efficiency location or is it powerful enough to cover the whole rig.  And the second question is on the cell booster--being in close proximity to the indoor antenna is key, but hard to do (we currently just have plugged in and haven't really "installed" it).  2:  Is there a way to have more than one indoor antenna inside so we don't have to sit in one place to use the cell phone? Or any ideas that would allow us to boost cell throughout the whole rig?

Also, with the Go, we are currently connected to it using our campground wifi and our speed has been in the range  1.29-1.42.  I have no point of reference to know if that is good or not? 3: Is that good? bad? what we should expect?

Think that is it for now.  As always, appreciate everyone's insight and suggestions.  Hoping to install the Mobile and get all of the equipment a "home" this weekend!

That is one of the issues with that booster - it is intended for mobile use and requires you t be very close. What you are experiencing is the design of the device. There WILL be a new wireless booster out in August timeframe - or perhaps a little later - that will boost most or all of your RV. This will be from Maximumsignal. They have always produced very good performing devices and I expect the new one to be the same. I've tested an alpha version and my opinion is that it will be worth waiting for.

The Mobile is best installed on the batwing antenna. That gets it up high. The Go local wireless signal will cover your coach no problem. If you want to boost your phone when it is acting as a hotspot it is going to have to be close to the antennna. No way around that. You can only have one indoor antenna.

Your capture speed should be close to the native speed of the wifi if you are using the Mobile. There is no telling what an RV park is running and the speed - you simply have to test it to see. What you are seeing is fairly typical.

Thanks Jack. We'll anxiously await the booster from MaximumSignal; guessing we can move the Wilson to our toad so it won't be a total loss. Meanwhile, we'll hover around the indoor antenna for our cell phone needs!!
