Try Trails End RV Park in Waynesville. I've stayed there a few times. Big rig friendly. Very nice campground. There are a few folks that winter there.

Thanks, we will be looking into Trails End during the week we're in the area. I like Waynesville, big enough to have what you need and small enough to be friendly.

I stayed at Indian Creek for a week last October. It's a shame you can't get a big rig down by the trout stream where we stayed, but at least you'll be closer to the laundry room if needed. I lived in Waynesville in the late 80's, early 90's (overlooking the Maggie Valley golf course), so I'm real familiar with the area.

Apple Cover RV park is nice but doesn't allow pets, (they don't mind a bird though), so I guess that puts it out of the question for you, manycats. I too like Trails End as it's economical and near my favorite CG, Cataloochee in the GSMNP though it doesn't have enough trees for my liking. I have stayed a couple weeks at the Ft Wilderness CG and liked it a lot, (Its $10/mo. cheaper than Trails End.) though just be sure you don't park under their huge chestnut trees in the Fall when they are losing nuts. I still have the dimples in the roof of my Aliner as a result. Trees can be a plus or a minus.

Stayed almost two weeks at Indian Creek and really enjoyed it. Had a great site, wider than what you get at most places and the cleanest rest rooms I've ever seen. Didn't get to Trails End but did like Ft. Wilderness. Would recommend either one.

We're in no hurry, we'll keep looking. i still like the idea of parking the rig for a season or moving to a cooler climate but I suspect my DH wants to find a place where I could live comfortably if I were alone. His bout with cancer has changed his perspectives and goals in many ways. For me, plans, as always, written in jello and "what, me worry??". I'm a combination of The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Scarlet O'hara...

I wonder why he feels he needs to make that decision for you? How can he really know how you would live if you were alone? Plan now for "both of you", you can plan for only yourself if it comes to that.

Absolutely right, Bill, not a decision to be made by just one person. I've lived alone before, of course when I was many years younger. I have no doubt I'll manage somehow since I'm pretty resilient. On the other hand, even though sometimes it's aggravating, I like the fact that he still sees me as a fragile flower to be protected... LMAO.

The dream is still alive and kicking, maybe we'll ease back into full-timing instead of jumping in head first but we have always found a way of making decisions together. It just takes a little more patience on my part. Neither one of us is going to live forever so we might as well enjoy what we can.

It's a bit further east than where you're looking, but my son-in-law just moved out of a campground in Marion, NC. It's called Pappy's, located next to Tom Johnson RV on Highway 70. Kind of a goofy arrangement, there are two owners as I understood it, one has the mobile home section and one has the RV section. I believe it's all full-time residents, and the lot rent was $125 a month. Many folks had put in decks and a bunch had carport type roofs over their RV. No laundry or store that I'm aware of.
