Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello everyone!! While I am not new to full time rv lifestyle, I am new to this site My husband and I purchased a 2013 Silverado by Bighorn in October of 2012 and set off for Elk City, Ok to build a gas plant (my husband is a construction manager for a company out of Tulsa, OK but we actually moved from Clarksville, TN). We loaded up our 2 boys (then 6 and 9yrs old) and our two fur kids (Finn, the lab and Grady, the english bulldog), sold or stored the contents of our 2,000 sqft. rental home in Clarksville and set out for life in our new 5th wheel bunkhouse. It's been an interesting ride to say the least. The weather in western Oklahoma is a little different than Tennessee and we really got to test unit...LOL. However, now we are nearing the end of the school year and my two boys are getting older and want the lifelong school friendships and the other comforts of life not on the road, so it is with tear filled eyes that I made the decision to let my boys try life with their father in Nebraska (the boys are mine from a previous marriage and they are boys who have been slowly wanting to spend more time with their father. I can respect that. Hard decision to say the least but I think it is the right one for now)...ANYWAY......my husband and I decided we no longer needed the bunkhouse and made the jump on a new 5th wheel. It's the 2015 Open Range 3X and OMG is all i can say about it!! We haven't actually taken delivery as it just rolled out of the factory on April 11th....but hopefully in the next week and a half we will be taking the bunkhouse to OKC and picking up our new home! Very excited about all of the new residential amenities in the unit and the ROOM in them! HUGE!!
Super excited about meeting other full timers on here! It's definitely a different lifestyle but it just works us!
Thank you! I will definitely be taking pics as soon as I get it Like a kid with a new toy...LOL
What model of Solitude do you have? That was the first one that we contemplated buying. We looked at them for a couple of months. Loved the huge pantry and all of the storage in the bedroom and bathrooms!
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. When we were researching and looking at RV's, the Open Range was one that was on our short list. You mentioned picking up your new one in Oklahoma City. Are you buying from Lewis RV? If you are, they are a good dealership. Over the years, we've purchased three different units from them, including the one we now have.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of folks here that have a lot of knowledge and they are more than willing to share that with other.

Yes Terry, we did in fact purchase it from Lewis RV. We had gone to the RV Show in mid-March and that's where we fell in love with the unit and the saleswoman, Kelly, from LewisRV. They have been great! Getting so anxious for it to get in. It will be in the shop for about 2 days getting the stacking washer/dryer put in but then we will make the trip from Elk City to pick it up! And I am so ready!
We are from a town about 40 miles southeast of Elk City. We to work construction and live in an RV full time. It is a great life if you enjoy seeing the county side on someone else's dime. LOL
What town are you in? There isn't too much to see this side of Oklahoma, but you are right about seeing the country side on someone else's dime. What kind of construction work do you do? If you haven't already and you get the chance, check out the restaurant in Meers. Neat little road trip and GREAT burger!!
We call home in the little town of Cordell, currently working in California. Both Sandra and i are in renewable energy (wind/solar). Meers is a great place along with Anna's that is located about 7 miles east of Meer's.
I'm sure you guys have eaten at Simons Catch at Elk City.
The storm season is coming fast for western Okla. It will be here in the next few weeks. Time to check the batteries in the weather radio....
Dry your tears. I never knew my dad, and at 67, I still wonder.
Let them grow up knowing they have both of their natural parents looking out what's best for that growth and their future, and are sharing the best of it. No mater how much the like/love your hubby, dad is still dad, and that can become even more important at some point to them.
Congrats on your new rig.
Hope it rolls out trouble free from the dealer for years to come.

Welcome to the forum! I can't wait to see pictures of your new Open Range. While I love our Trilogy I still love looking at all other kinds of RV's, any type, any size!
When in Elk City do go to the Route 66 museum. While you're too young to recognize much displayed there that we did, it's still a fun, educational exhibit. Theirs also a good bakery there on Main Street I think, wish I could remember the name.

Well, I just got the news....our new 3X is in!!! YEAH!!! It feels like it's been the longest month and half of my life...LOL. If you are like me and like that instant gratification thing, DON'T order a customized unit!!! Especially this time of year...LOL. It has all worked out good, as it gave me plenty of time to go through everything in my current trailer and downsize a little more (didn't really need to as there is more room in the new one but I am an organizing freak I guess...LOL). It also gave my husband time to get stars in his eyes and start looking at new trucks....oh, those boys and their toys....LOL. However this "boy" is wanting to get rid of my vehicle and the truck we currently have and get the new truck (we have too many vehicles for just the two of us....we were struggling figuring out how to move them all at the end of May when we go to Tulsa)....so it looks like I will have a new "toy" truck and a new home all in the matter of about a week...It's like my birthday, Christmas and Mothers Day all wrapped into one for me...haha!!! And, thank you all for the welcome! Maybe we'll run into along the road sometime. If anyone is in the Tulsa, OK area in the coming months, the hubby and I (and our fur kids) will be there. Drop us a line. We love to entertain...especially now that we will have more room to do so!!!
Congratulations on the "new" stuff to come. We are just down the turnpike from you in Oklahoma City and do have a trip planned to go to Tulsa next month, but it is to a family get-together that involves our Tulsa kin that is fixing to move to Houston, our family from Colorado, and ourselves, so I'm not sure a quick visit would be in the cards. If you want to send me your location via a private message, we might be able to work something out.
As for the truck search, if you are still around the Elk City area to Oklahoma CIty, check out Diffee Ford in El Reno. They are an excellent dealership that we've done business with for over 15 years. They are where we found our Ford F450. If GM or Dodge is your preference, there are dealerships for them right next to and within a half mile from Diffee Ford. Don't rule out a good used truck, because that could save you a lot.
