Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Fulltime cheating

We have sold the house and go fulltime in mid June.  Our plan is to see the sights of the 48 states.

We plan to stay in motels on ocassion, we really want to stay at Southpoint in Vegas again. I have checked and they will let us put the truck and 5er on their lot.  We also have time banked in Resorts International Time Share.  We will stay in a timeshare condo at least one week a year.

Do any of you do something similar?  How has it worked out?

We travel with a cat, not easy to do. Plus, I want my pillow, my sheets, my toilet.

I love my RV.  It has my bed, my feathered kids and my DH.  The few times I have stayed at a hotel, I have been very uncomfortable and wished I was home or in the RV.

I have stayed at a couple hotels since we have been fulltiming. It's not the same, I'm spoiled now. I want my chair, my kitchen, my bed.

We also have some timeshare weeks. We like to use them for Hawaii. We're all different but pets do complicate things unless you can park somewhere where there might be a reliable pet sitter or family volunteer. We stayed in an adorable little motor court last year for a couple of nights when my granddaughter was in a beach volleyball tournament in Seaside, OR and it was really fun but we had a GREAT sitter we really trusted 'back home' with the kids.

For us these days air travel is such a hassle and we're seeing so much stateside that we'd rather be in our "Rolling Rest Home".

We've only been FT for 9 months with the only hotel stay so far for me due to business travel. However, this year we have 2 art shows in the Silicon Valley and from previous experience absolutely HATE towing the rig in the Bay Area, RV parks are very expensive, etc. and we have found a place a couple hours away with good weekly rates. So we're going to try leaving the rig there over the art show weekend in May and just driving the truck into the city and staying at an inexpensive (by San Francisco standards) hotel for a couple of nights.

Mathwise we think we'll about break even with less diesel costs, etc. and the hassle of dealing with those Bay Areas drivers might just make it worth it.

We've also booked a cruise for next Feb. so we do need to figure out what to do with the rig and kitty and have some ideas for that time. For the 2 weekends away this year we're most likely going to just leave food out for her. We know some other folks who stay at the same park in the spring and fall so we might be able to con one of them into checking on her once or twice.

Learning as we go....

Just like when we lived in a stationary home, we took breaks from it too. Really no different with our full time RVing lifestyle.

We have:

- Parked the RV for several months and sublet an apartment in the Virgin Islands
- Taken several cruises
- Traveled by plane, train or automobile away from the RV
- Stayed in hotels or at family/friends home as guests when traveling away from the RV

Just two days ago we broke down on the side of the highway, and the part we needed wouldn't be found until the next day. We contemplated just staying in the RV (like we have in the past on a similar occasion) - but instead indulged in a local motel room for hot baths after a long annoying day.

While we love RVing and consider it our primary modality of nomadism, there are just also some styles of travel that we also enjoy. No reason to feel trapped by a label, do what you enjoy.

Hotels have bathtubs. And while I do prefer my own bed and linens and bathroom, I sure do love a good bathtub. The Hyatt in Jersey City New jersey has an excellent bathtub.
Oh, and the Boonesboro Inn in Md has super spiffy bathrooms and giant tubs for two.
I may have to write a book about bathtubs I have known and loved, lol.
