Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are preparing to head out for the summer and in discussing things with our son and his wife (both police officers) they had a few tips to pass on. Perhaps they may be of benefit to some of you.
We travel with our dog, but occasionally when sight seeing or running errands we will leave her in our 5th wheel. Our "police officers" told us about the number of times they had to investigate an accident where a pet was either injured, lost or left at home with no one knowing. They suggested we keep an emergency info book in our vehicle that included contact info for someone who is responsible for medical/financial arrangements, someone to contact for access to our RV (campground, friend, etc) and most importantly health insurance info. They also added that having current photo's of each other and the pet was a great benefit especially if one becomes lost. We added a note in our emergency book that if our dog was not with us she was in our RV and who to contact about making arrangements for her.
Good luck in all your travels.
PS: Son said that although all this info can be stored in phones it is best to have a hard copy available. From personal experience I know what happens to cell phones during an accident. Mine wasn't found for several days and was damaged beyond working, while everything in the glove compartment was intact.
I had started a thread a while back called (something like) "what if?". Some here suggested, and I plan to do this, getting business cards made that can be put into your wallet that say something like:
We are full-time RVers. In case of emergency please contact (fill in name(s) and phone number(s).
We have (#) dogs, (#) cats in our 5th wheel trailer which is currently parked at (fill in campground name and address and site #)
Please make sure they are taken care of.
Might tweak this a bit but it can be easily put in your wallet along with any other items, like an insurance card. I know they say to use the "ICE" feature on your phone, but mine is password protected in case of theft.
Fyi: vistaprint website has really nice cards for cheap.
I have a medic alert USB around my neck and one on my wrist......with all major data logged on it , it has been used already once...and they were impressed how all my medical records and important info was on them.....
I also have a laminated card in my wallet and in my phone case that has an emergency number and points out the usb's....
I bought these in a drug store.................they have already paid me back!!!!

the Thumb drive has an emergency access link to an online data base.....from that data base the hospital can link to the medical center that treats me. Its a neat set up....alot of hospitals and major medical centers are going to it

On each trip out of town, from a computer file we print a page each time we change CGs. On this page it explains who we are, where our coach is and the fact pets are on board. (including leash locations, medical records and who to contact should we not survive)
If we are walking, away from the coach and our toad, it tells where the toad is parked, how to get in touch with my wife or myself, depending upon which of us needs aid, where medical records are located etc.
This provides us peace of mind should ever there be a need for such informtion.
The word doc only needs the location of the coach updated when we arrive. There are blanks to be penciled in when we leave the toad or are seperated. Each of carries a folded copy in our wallet/purse.
Works for us.
