Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Me again.  Also could not find any info on this brand.  Opinions on getting two 2700 portable generators made by Powerhouse?  Are these the Chinese made generator most of you have talked about staying away from?

reviews.cabelas.com/8815/524423/powerhouse-inverter-generator-reviews/reviews.htm

is your coach all electric.....or are you buying one as a spare?

these are decent generators for light duty use ,but have a high failure rate if you use them in there duty ratings.

and warranty is limited to the dealers that sell them.......those that I know that have them, have had long waits on repair time.

but as I always say...you buy within the budget and use factor......I have a coleman 1850 generator I bought 8 yrs ago for 100 bucks.....I use it for running my booth on the weekends and charging and light duty on the RV...(Its cheaper than running the onan)....and when I bought it people said it would never last

If you want to tandem two together I would get the Honda EU3000is. They are only 49db sound level @ 1/4 throttle. They have the "ECO THROTTLE" which is fully variable depending on load. I have one and they are very fuel efficient, very quiet, and reliable. Look for the db rating on all the other look-a-likes when shopping. Some are very LOUD.......Like 73db or more. Makes a difference when have neighboring RV'ers.

I own 2 Champion generators (I think they are 1750 or something) which I can pair together for 4000 watts (can run A/C, etc).  These are extremely quiet like the Honda's but are half the price.  I have been quite happy with them.

Powerhouse reviews are not great but not terrible.

I have a Yamaha 3000 and Honda 2000 and love both of them.

A little pricey but you may want to consider the Juicebox by Onan.

I ordered two of these for my RV and the parallel kit. A I unpacked them both I noted that one of them had oil on the side of it and the cover wasn't put on correctly. It gave me the feeling that it may have been a return or refurbished one. I ran both for 20 hours to break them in at a 30% load per the instructions all seemed ok, but the one that looked suspect had a strong smell of gasoline and was starting to run rough. I changed the oil on both and started them both up again. Due to the one not running so well I called the MFG and they said the carburetor may be gummed up, So I ran a half tank of fuel cleaner through the system (per the MFG) but still it would constantly surge, high to low rpm. One of the remote starter key fobs would not work at all, and the other you would have to hold it against the unit for it to start. After the I ran the half tank of cleaner through it I noted a lot of oil was coming from the bottom of the unit. A peek inside also noted oil all over the engine from top to bottom. Most of the parts and casing feels and looks cheap compared to a Honda 2000. The wheels need to be better, they are cheap wheels you would find on a cheap roller tote. just moving it around a little on the concrete and the wheels are already getting pretty beat up They should be rubber. The fuel cap is a regular automotive type cap, so no chance of using an extended run fuel system like you can get for the Honda's and Yamaha's. The Other one is running just fine. The parallel kit is ok, but I had to get an adapter to go from the standard 30 amp to a twist lock 30 amp. The features seemed nice and the power is what made me buy these. According to my Air conditioner specs one should be able to start the A/C with 2500 watts, but it can't. The MFG support is ok, but they are slow at getting back to you and ultimately you have to take it to a repair center near you. Also, I was not aware of this but this is NON-RETURNABLE item! But Amazon has been great and they are sending a new one. Thanks Amazon. The upside is they don't feel much heavier than the Honda's or much louder frop my perspective. I wish I would have gone with Yamaha or Honda.

Edit-8/21/12:
As of yesterday the other unit went into a very high RPM and will not output any power, The RPM is so high I immediately turned it off as it sounded like it would explode. Stay Away from Power House at all costs, unreliable and cheap, except for the $2200.00+ dollars I am now out of.

Just our own experience, and it is limited in the amount of usage that we've given our generator, but we have a Honda EU3000IS generator that is several years old.  For a few years after we got the generator, we only ran it about 6 hours a day for about a week with each vacation.  Beyond that, we've used it for other occasions when we needed remote electrical, but only for a limited amount of time.

In all, it has worked well and other than maintenance, we've not had any problems with it.  In our case, having a fifth wheel with two air conditioners, the one Honda isn't enough to run both.  I would consider buying a second EU3000IS since I already have one and would only need one plus the parallel kit.  Now, if I were to not have any generator and planned to purchase one so I could boondock, I might would be likely to go with an Onan instead.  If you go that route, look into both the 5500 and the 6500 models from Onan.  The 5500 has about the same power and amp capacities as two Honda EU3000IS generators, while the 6500 has more than 50 amps of power.

Another consideration with regards to the larger Honda's the EU3000IS with full fuel weighs around 150 lbs.

Bernie,

I've seen these generators running at flea market booths and I think they are amazingly quiet.  When we bought our new dishwasher, I wanted the quietest one I could get.  It is also 49db and I can hardly hear it sometimes.  Can't imagine a 3000 watt generator being that quiet.

Vance,

One year while camping, we had our Honda running in the back of the pickup.  A neighboring camper and I stood within 6 feet of the generator and carried on a conversation without having to even speak loudly.  If we have the Mobile Suites door and windows shut, I can hardly hear it running outside.
