Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

i want to replace the dining table with cabs and countertop--but where can i find the cabs?

Our carriage Cameo suits us in many ways, but the dining table and chairs are a total waste of space for us.

We never sit at the table, and it's always covered with stuff which just hasn't got a home of it's own.

There is the bowl of fruit, the icemaker, French press, toaster oven, etc etc.

so--my grand scheme is to haul the table and chairs out altogether and insert cabinets and countertop along the walls instead.

this is in the slide, so the short wall is 28" to the corner and then I have 5' from that corner which I'd like to use.

the table is 30" high which would be the best height for the cabs as the window sits 30" off of the floor and I don't want the cabs to be taller than the window.

the other thing is I think 15" cabs will be plenty deep, much more than that and I think it will look too bulky.

Might wall cabs with countertop attached to the tops work?

doing this will at least double the storage and countertop space, and effectively double the size of the entire kitchen.

but my search skills are lacking--is there a way to search for cabs by size?

of course I want it now, and for less than custom built, so hope someone here knows what I am looking for and where to find it.

btw--I have no worry about weight, as we've already ditched the enormous and heavy sofa sleeper which came with the rig. that space now has dh's recliner in there, he has lots of room to stretch out and mine is in the back window so I also have a ton of room there.

thanks if you've made it this far!

I just found this---perfect!

I think I've seen something similar-- is something like this available from an rv supply store or only custom?

We bought the desk and dining table from the amazing table folks. Very happy with it....solid well built.

It allows for flexibility. We can move the table out into the floor and have room to use the desk. Or use the table to create an L shaped desk.

I've emailed the amazing table folks and am (impatiently!) waiting to hear back. in the mean time, I couldn't find pricing on their web site. would you be able to give me a ballpark number for the combo? I know shipping will be a bear, I'll figure that out after.

Friends have been happy with cabinets from Focal Wood Products in Nappanee IN, Amish made - http://focalwood.com/.  Being Amish you leave a phone message and they call you back.   Another one in the same area that does great work , http://www.countrycraftsmanwoodworking.com/.  The original owner, Irv Kaufman, invented the desk/dinette for RVs.

While I can't offer any suggestions for you, I can echo your feelings about replacing the dining table with something that would fit our needs better.  Honestly, I am not even sure what that is yet, since we have not yet bought our first 5er.

I've used focal wood products for several things in the past. Highly recommended.

I have finally found a system of nice cabinets at pottery barn
has anyone else used these?

www.potterybarn.com/products/build-your-own-modular-bar-components/%7Cbase%2Bcabinet%7C7%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C7&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules

at 13.5 inches deep they are shallow enough to work well in the slide, now to decide how many I need.

UPDATE-----
today I purchased two 30" base kitchen cabinets and a countertop and replaced the table and chairs with them. what a difference!
I have tripled the counter space and storage capacity in our fiver and it looks good. the raw oak is not a perfect match for the natural maple, but I may paint the cabs anyway, so I'm not worried, they are very close in tone.

I know my base cabinets from pottery barn are waiting for me to pick them up on Monday, so very soon I will have everything put away once and for all.
I have curtains ordered, our rv service guy will remove the valances and install the curtain rods in a couple of weeks, (he's done it in his own and knows what he's doing while i'd be guessing) and lastly that stupid 19" deep cabinet over the kitchen sink goes away for good.
no more head trauma while doing the dishes!

I hope to have learned how to post pictures by then, and when it's reasonably completed i'll be showing off my minor remodel.
