Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

It never rains....

As my daughter told me today, "it never rains, it pours, and I think you live in a rainforest!"

House is officially listed now, with the open house on Sunday (in 3 days).  Still lots of last minute things to do to prepare for it.  One was replacing almost all the outlets (not outlet covers) in the house.  What should have taken 1 day is still in progress due to finding some faulty and crossed wires.  So the painting and organzing is a bit delayed.

Now, to top things off, DH decided to sit on the bathroom sink (for leverage in putting the outlet back) and - you guessed it - he broke it.  It was a brand new vanity and when the contractors installed it 2 months ago, they had to caulk the area between the sink and wall, so taking it apart is not going to be easy.  So now we have to buy another vanity and have it reinstalled.  A few hundred more $$$ which we don't have (guess I'm not paying the utility bills this month).

Like many of my fellow Dreamers who continue to give me inspiration, I just have to keep reminding myself that this is all part of the journey.  And things could still be much worse, so continue to count my blessings.

Indeed, this will pass and then we're on to another problem! I'm already anticipating finding a buyer and then having the inspector find a million things wrong.

We do live in a rainforest and have discovered an umbrella just doesn't do the trick. We need to put up the rain tents! This has always been our lives and I know for sure, it will continue to be our way of life in the RV as well. There will always be unexpected problems that throw us off course. The trick is to be flexible and take it in stride as much as possible. Don't stress about the problem, but live in the solution! The solution may not be easy or cheap, but there's always a solution.

After my daughter learned about the sink breaking because dear old dad sat on it, she was very surprised that I let him live long enough to tell the tale!!! My husband's remark this morning: "thank you so much for keeping calm and not pointing blame and making me feel like the fool I am. I don't know that we'd get through the day if you went into panic mode."

Trust me, it is taking a LOT of effort not to panic, but what good would that do? It's certainly not going to fix things. This is great practice for the road.

Oddly enough, also, it has renewed my faith in my husband's handy work. He's nowhere near an expert, but I guess he does know his way around a hammer and drill and has a good understanding (or is a quick learner) about how things work. So what is total Latin to me regarding how things in an RV work, I think he'll be able to figure it out (with online help, of course). In other words, I don't think we'll need to run to a repair shop every time there's a leak or something doesn't work. At least not immediately, anyway. He just better not sit on the sink!

Cheryl,

You have a great attitude and this too shall pass. Before long you'll be in Southern California or AZ in your RV wishing for rain!

Cheryl - hang in there!! You're not alone, last Mar - May we felt like we were in the rainforest, and yes, we were in Seattle, but I felt like we were in a constant downpour for a few months. not the normal Seattle drizzle. House repairs took longer than expected, truck order - fouled up, found a different truck, went to pick up the trailer, issues with the 7 pin connector, then the landing gear failed, then bad weather caused Dale to take the southern route home, RV fridge failed twice, more purging delays, sold the house really fast and then 3 different closing delays all caused by the buyer.

Different problems, but still, hiccups in the process, nothing went as planned and in the end it didn't matter. The house sold, we are on the road and we're still having hiccups and bumps as we go along and are learning to deal with each one whether it's the ongoing fridge saga, flooding in Colorado, ice storm in Dallas, unplanned rapid repositioning needed due to family circumstances, a leak we had to fix, etc., etc.

I think all the bumps we had in the Jan - July 2013 process helped us be more prepared for the bumps on the road and taught us how to hold really loosely onto our plans, knowing they could change at any minute.

And I can truly say we've learned to laugh over all the little things that go wrong. My husband truly thinks I'm a changed person as this life has forced me out of my type A personality!!!

Hey Cheryl,

I just want you to know your not alone. Life keeps throwing these curve balls and we keep throwing them back :) Good for you for staying cool with your hubby...Lee and I got super testy with each other last night over a relatively minor thing but the closer we get to the dream the more intense things get...not bad necessarily just intense.

Do me a favor...take a deep breath...now take another. Tell yourself if it's meant to be it will happen and let go a little. I can tell how much this means to you...means to all of us, but on some level for each of us if it's meant to happen it will happen...the roadblocks don't mean anything more than anything in life this important requires some fighting for. I know that probably sounds contradictory but you can fight for this and still be a little zen about what happens happens....

Look at me getting all Dr Phil :) My husband by the way would read this...laugh..and ask me when I was going to start taking my own advice :)

We are there with you hon!!

I think those last minute glitches happen to many folks. They sure did to us way back when we were trying to have the house ready to sell and leave before the bad weather hit the Rockies we had to cross to get where we wanted to be in November.

A few examples:
Lee decided to use the wall vacuum hose to vacuum stuff from the fireplace. I had to take the vacuum pipes apart to clean the chunks out.

When we took the dining room area rug up we discovered the hardwood floor had to be refinished.

The one year old quite expensive JenAire electric stove died during the oven cleaning cycle and a control board had to be replaced.

There was more but those come to mind right now. Hang in there, it does work out.

Cheryl,

I certainly know how you feel - same things happening here! Ok, hubby did not sit on the sink and break it, but my plans to finally paint the front door (now that Bill fixed it) will probably be dashed away this weekend, as it is supposed to rain! UGH! We have already pushed back 2 weeks from my original day to list (I know you have been delayed longer), but I am growing impatient! I am SO READY, already! Our realtor is a saint b/c I must have asked her the same stuff 100 times by now - she just patiently says it's all going to be fine, which I know it will be - the waiting is the hardest part!

Hopefully we stay on track without too much of the intensity Tracey mentioned (we have experienced some of that around here also!) and can list next weekend! That would be SO AWESOME!

On brighter fronts, my daughter is coming tonight and we get to meet the new BF. AND - I am pretty sure we have a buyer for our Class C! YAY!

Always be looking for the silver lining - it's out there somewhere!

Kelly
