Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
For the past several weeks I’ve been one of those “lurkers” Howard talks about. It’s time to publicly join the crowd. My wife, Mary, and I are moving toward spending time on the road. We’re still discussing the full-time vs mostly-time modes (me the former, she the latter).
Last summer we bought a 2005 Ford F350 turbo diesel, dually, crew cab (for the dogs), full bed pickup, in preparation. We had the fifth wheel hitch installed last week because our new Keystone Alpine 3010RE fifth wheel will be arriving in the next month or two. Our dogs are rescue dogs so the vet guesses our female is a mix of Boxer and Rhodesian Ridgeback, and our male is a mix of Great Dane and some type of hound (he’s medium sized). They were each about a year old when we got them. We’ve had them for over 9 years and plan to travel with them so I’d be interested in any words of wisdom on traveling with larger dogs, mostly with regard to campground issues.
I’ve been reading Howard’s Journal from the beginning toward current. I’m only at September of 2006. I wanted to see if I could get answers to some of my questions from this reading. I’ve also started to keep up with the current postings. I decided rather than wait, I’d just “jump in”. I’m sure I’ll need to ask questions long before I get caught up on the reading.
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums, Gary. However, you have confused me. You call yourself "oldyank," but your profile says you are in Texas. Does that mean you "used to be" a Yankee?
Anyway, when a question arises, as they always do, feel free to ask. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here with answers for just about everything.
Terry

Yes, I grew up in Cooperstown, New York and lived in the northeast until my mid twenties. I've been living in the Dallas area since the fall of 1975. I'm now a naturalized Texan married to a native Texan.
As the delivery date for our new "home" gets closer I'm sure I'll start asking a lot of questions.
Welcome to the forum! Traveling with dogs is easy. Load them up and go. Our lab does extremely well traveling. We keep a bottle of water for her in the truck as well. Somewhere along the way we found some collapsible nylon bowls that she'll drink out of without making a mess.

X2. Welcome. Most every dog loves to go camping. Why?
Lots of walks with their owners, and lots of new things to smell.

Gary, welcome from another Texan. We are both Texans by birth but now that we're retired, we're more like Snow Birders or Winter Texans. We'll be leaving Texas next month but will return in October when it's cooler.
