Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello all,
We have been looking at diesel motorhomes and have found a FRED (front end diesel) that we like. I do realize that if it has to be worked on they will need to come inside. I can live with that if it is the one we like, but does anyone have any other insight on one?
Wendy
If this is a Freightliner FRED, it has an ISB Cummins engine in the same spot where a gas Class A has its engine. Much easier access than a DP with a rear radiator. It could be noisy while driving. People seem happy with them. There is no air compressor, like most DPs have, so the brakes and suspension do not use air.

It is a 2013 FRED with a Cummins in it built by Thor. We really like the floor plan and the fact that it has the washer dryer combo for only being 36 foot.
Where is the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank fill? If it is on the passenger side you will not be able to fill the DEF tank at truck stops since they have that on the driver's side. You will have to buy it at Wal-Mart in containers, which is more expensive. Not a show stopper, but an irritant that is very common with newer diesel motorhomes.
