Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Chilly; darned right cold here near the Music City. Had a real feel of -6 early this AM and not supposed to get much above +12 today. Suppose to get near the 40 degree mark by Friday. If that GroundHog sees his shadow Feb. 2nd I wil skin him alive and hang his pelt on my camper door!!! LOL! I was thinking of Texas or Florida next Winter; but South America is looking rather entertaining now!!! PIeere

We are just down the road from Barb, with both of us in Mesa AZ. This is the winter to be in the Southwest and not further east.
You cannot tell one year to the next where to be in winter, at least without going deep into Mexico. Last winter we had multiple cold spells here in Mesa, the low one morning was 24. But in March, we set some high temperature records close to 100. We have been in Florida and been warm all winter, while other years we had lots of cold weather, with dead fish in the ponds.

We are having unseasonably warm temps here in central California. No rain at all. I hope our farmers can weather this weather.
I just called to schedule the shipment of my 5er (read: depreciating asset that will make me destitute) from Ohio to California. I told him not to rush. I understand the weather and don't want anyone taking undue risk. Then He told me it was -20 there this morning. I told him to get my baby out of that crappy weather as soon as possible, spare no expense. And in the mean time go out and cover her with a nice warm blanket!!! Poor thing, probably shivering and chilled to the bone. Nobody loves her except me.

You know there's something wrong when it's warmer in Seattle than Texas and most of the Southeast. Loving this winter in AZ, near Tucson for a few more weeks before we have to travel to NM, then OK, then TX. Hoping by early March that TX and OK will be back to their normal weather, not this freakishly cold weather.
It's cold here in Elsa Texas (25 miles north of Brownsville TX) too! It's currently 44 with a 20 mph wind. Temp tonight going down to 33 and then up to low 50's tomorrow. After that we warm up again to the mid-70s and low 80s.
Yup, it looks like the southwest would have been the better choice this year.
Stay warm everyone!

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
Tybee Island/Savannah, GA. The temps here have been unseasonably cold all during Jan. Received an ice storm last night and that has not happened since 4 years ago. Atlanta (240 miles to NW) received 2.5 inches of snow and the city was shut down. Temps supposed to be mid 20s tonight at Tybee Island. I am staying warm using two electric space heaters at the Rivers End RV Park. A tent camper from last night left this morning.
Speaking of the cold, ice and snow in the south, or as they say in south Louisiana "Sneaux", I have seen a number of articles and such criticizing the south for getting shut down due to a "dusting snow fall". True but the south does not experience such regularly, as in once every 25-35 YEARS or so.
This post explains the situation much better than I can.
Father Nathan Monk
I am really getting tired of northerners mocking the emergency aspect of the snow storm coming to Florida. We understand that you get snow more often, we know ...that your schools often don't close, and we get it. But there is a lot of realities you are ignoring. People in Florida are not prepared for this kind of weather, the majority of houses use heat pumps for warmth, but in extreme cold they will not hold up. Most people don't have winter clothing, and cars are not winterized, nor do they have the proper tires. Not to mention our local government doesn't have access to salt trucks, or other large equipment to clear the roads and keep people safe. A lot of people live in Florida for a reason, because they aren't equipped to live in colder climates, which is why we have a lot of elderly folks living here. Many of them moved away from the cold and snow for health reasons. You guys remember that little storm you got a while back? Hurricane Sandy. That was a category one hurricane. You know what we call a category one hurricane on the panhandle? Rain. But I happened to be up there during Sandy, and everyone was running around in a panic, national guard was walking around with assault rifles, and guess what, it caused a lot of damage. You know why? Because you guys weren't prepared for a hurricane anymore than we are prepared for a snow storm. In other words, your experience doesn't diminish other peoples experience.
===============================
I hasten to add that I did not know that hurricane Sandy was only a category 1 storm. We have traveled all of the eastern seaboard in our boat and the TT and have seen the construction that is flat on the ground/beach in no way built to withstand any storm.
Love all these comments and we "newbies" need to take heed of BillJoyce's comments about the weather. I'm just chuckling as my brother move late 2013 from Oshkosh, WI to the Carolina's to escape the cold. 😄
I have noticed, having lived in 12 different states, that weather newscasters everywhere are very parochial and LOVE to point out bad weather or bad news in other parts of the country. Just human nature I guess.

Icicles on our S&B had to be broken off before we could open our front and back doors. Our trucks and fivers do have over two inches of snow on them. Haven't even been able to run tests on our new-to-us rig because we don't want to slip and slide our way to it through a snow covered front yard. Ran out of bread and almost out of cat food and the road in front of our house is too slippery to drive on. We're about two hours south of Atlanta and, of course, our county has no eqipment to handle this weather. Welcome to sunny Georgia!!
I'm about two hours south of Atlanta too (Columbus) and I couldn't get out of my house to feed some feral cats that hang around here until about 2:00 this afternoon. The sidewalk from my front door to the driveway is always in the shade at this time of year and it was a solid sheet of ice this morning... same thing outside the garage door, both of them being on the north side of the house. I used a whole container of salt deicing the sidewalk but I had to do it in stages because I couldn't reach it all at once and didn't want to risk a fall (I'm 67 so I guess that makes me a senior citizen). I just hope all the melt off evaporates today. Otherwise it could refreeze overnight and if that happens I'm doomed - I have no more salt.
Have been listening to the weather people (Meteorologists) talking about the long winter ahead; like its a first and never happened before. Yes; it has been along time since the Deep South had Snow and Ice and extended bouts of cold early AM's. I moved to Jacksonville; Fl. in June of 1993; some of the locals said they had to shut the city down if the many bridges got a light coating of Ice or maybe an inch of Snow. I was there until 1999 and never happened although I awoke to a -2 temp a few times. I was told it was around 1993 when they got a couple inches of snow and kids and people were finding anything that would slide to go down the little hills on.
I believe we have had so many mild winters; folks have forgotten most of unusually cold and slippery winters!

Just moved back from Nashville to Naples, FL....I have been yelled at for bringing back the cold weather. I did a 3 month job there and had to actually go buy more socks while I was there!!! Pierre can attest: he was only 40 min from me. I missed the Atlanta mess by 6 hours. I stopped just north of Atlanta for the night and asked the trooper at the hotel what time the bad weather was going to hit...he told me approx 7 am: it was already 7:22 and drizzling. But today I hope I have earned forgiveness... sunny and 75...
Bill - as a fellow former Western WA resident, you will appreciate this. We also had just enough rain at Catalina State Park (near Tucson) to actually know it rained. When I walked into the bathroom this morning and heard rain on the skylight it took me a couple of minutes to figure out what it was. Oh yeah, that's what rain sounds like, hadn't heard it since December, at the same park. Makes me wonder if it's that park or just us
Well, we are getting some more moisture, which is a blessing because we've been having some wildfires here in Oklahoma. However, that moisture is coming with temps down in the low 20's at the moment. Jo and I figure that we are "training" for Colorado for next winter.
Not that I'm excited, but we have 5 months - - or 21 weeks - - or 149 "full" days - - or 104 working days before we head for the hills.

Terry- that OKC weather better warm up by mid-March!!! I'm not sure we can handle our grandtwins inside the 5'ver for most of their spring break, we'll be stir crazy before the first day is over.

Terry, I see you're takin' nose rubbin to the next level. Shame on you! I hope your dog water freezes!
Ayy now, don't take it out on the dog.... Just because Terry "ONLY" has 149 full days, or 104 working days left!
My last 2 weeks of "work" was long but fun for me, people would come up and ask about this project or that like I cared what was going to happen. Now I had all my stuff up to date or completed and I left on great terms. But the look on people's faces when you say that you won't be here to do so-in-so is priceless.
Now back to the weather, which is 38* blowing about a steady 18mph and drizzly rain, all in the great town of Flatonia Texas!

Ruth,
Well, if you were to stay at Twin Fountains RV Park (right next door to our location), they have just opened a new feature to their RV park. It is a salon and spa and offers massages, manicures and other "women stuff." That might solve some of the stir crazy symptoms.
Unfortunately, their swimming pool is an outdoor one, so the Grandtwins might not care for that one. However, they do have a miniature golf course, complete with an active "stream" running through it.

His water isn't likely to freeze. Since we no longer have a stix and brix with a pet door, he is pretty much an inside dog.
When he does have to go outside, we pretty much have to carry him in and out because he has cataracts and can't see much. He is nearly 17 years old, so I don't know how much longer we will have him. We had to put down Lady, who was his cohort for almost 16 years.

Thanks Terry, I was going to PM you with a request to provide info on where in OKC we should consider. Looking at the state park that's not too far from Norman, but also trying to find something closer to the city for part of our stay. Will take a look at it! But, please, bring on the warm spring weather by the time we arrive.
The one next door to us is called Twin Fountains RV Park. They are likely the nicest one in the Oklahoma City area, but they are also likely the most expensive.
Here are some others, to mention with a short comment about each.
Roadrunner RV Park is one that is more on the south side of Oklahoma City. It is just off of I-35 in the vicinity of SW 44th Street.
There is yet another one on the west side of Oklahoma City called Rockwell RV Park, but their "website" isn't really an interactive one where you can check out all the amenities and rates.
If you don't mind a KOA, there is one east of Oklahoma City that is really nice with a bunch of trees, but it would be further away from your Grandtwins. It is called KOA East.
As for the state park near Norman, I think you are referring to Thunderbird Lake. If so, I should warn you that it is referred to as "Dirty Bird Lake" because it is ALWAYS a muddy brown color. Also, there was a lot of damage out there with all the tornadoes that we've had in this part of the state. Thunderbird has a lot of tree damage.
If I can help you with any answers to questions about RV parks and local attractions, let me know. Along that line, near to Twin Fountains, and where we live, is the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Firefighter's Museum, and the 45th Infantry Division Museum. Also close by Twin Fountains is the Oklahoma City Zoo, Remington Park (horse racing and casino) and Science Museum Oklahoma. So, there is a LOT to see in the Northeast side of Oklahoma City. Enough to keep the Grandtwins busy for some time. The Science Museum Oklahoma is an interactive museum that is really popular with the kiddos.

Hi Terry! Us down here in mid Texas would really appreciate it if you would be kind enough to CLOSE THE FREAKIN DOOR. We're to cold down here.. Thanks for all your help in this matter, Winter Texans
Sorry. Back when we were in agriculture and involved with farming and ranching up in the Oklahoma Panhandle, we used to always say that the only thing between us and the North Pole was a 4 wire barbed wire fence and three of those strands were broken.
I guess I need to get my wire pliers out and brave the cold for a bit.
Actually, one station up here is forecasting temps as low as 1 degree above 0 later this week. Come on up and we'll all stand outside and try to get our body heat to warm things up,
Terry

The snow has been going around us lately, making a bee line to the east coast, but the temps here have been reminiscent of the old days. Lows in the -0 to -15 & getting into the teens above 0 during the day, for several months now. I stay inside preparing the house for sale, hopefully the end of the month. Hoping to go to the spring rally with house sold (crossing our fingers) & Lindy may retire after 33+ years & we'll be on the road with many of the rest of you. This winter in Minnesota has stayed cold and had no warm spells to melt much snow cover. I think there will be some major flooding when it does melt, unless it is a sloooow melt.
As I sit here I just heard the radio say it could be -32 wind chill tomorrow morning. My grand daughters have had 5 days off from school this year, not snow days but cold days. I don't remember ever having 'cold' days off and seldom snow days. I used to walk uphill both ways to school against the wind, uh ha.

I don't know where I've been, but I am here now! - D. Anderson
We got 5" of snow Sunday night, another 6' last night and 4-8" on the forecast for tonight. As I keep shoveling I keep telling myself -- This is the last winter --This is the last winter -- This is the last winter
I've been in Chicago pretty much all of my life, and this is the worst winter I can remember, including '67, '79, '85 & '99. It's simply relentless, and the 7 day forecast is never heartening. I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but it won't stop snowing long enough to even get a glimpse.
Talking about "chilly", it was only 79 degrees here yesterday. My wife was cold last evening so I went outside at 9:30 to check the temperature. It had dropped to 72.
If it ever drops below 70 here all the locals bundle up to withstand the chill.
We will try to live through this downturn in the weather, we'll be back in the 80"s soon.
Think of us in our time of need.
